How PowerPoint inserts a chart in a placeholder

The placeholder contains the Insert Chart button, which allows users to quickly insert a chart.

Step 1: Press the "CTRL + N" key combination to create a new presentation, and in the Slides tab of the Start panel, click the New Slide Drop-down button and select the layout that contains the chart in the pop-up list box, as shown in the following illustration.

Step 2: When you're done, you can create a new slide and click the Insert Chart button in the placeholder, as shown in the following illustration.

Step 3: Pop the Insert Chart dialog box and select the chart style in the column chart options area, as shown in the following illustration.

Step 4: Click the OK button to insert the selected chart style in the placeholder, and the Excel 2010 application will automatically start, showing the chart data as shown in the following illustration.
