How the computer board BIOS is set

BIOS setup

General computer motherboards are set up after the computer boot has been pressed del key can enter the BIOS. System boot bios, that is, the basic input and output system of the microcomputer (fundamental input-output system), is integrated in the motherboard of a ROM chip, which holds the most important computer system basic input/output program, System Information settings, Power on the Self-Test program and the system to start the bootstrap process. The BIOS ROM chip can be seen on the motherboard. Whether a motherboard is superior or not depends largely on the advanced BIOS management function on the board.

Tip: Different computers, system board BIOS programs may be different, but most of them are similar. You can refer to your computer motherboard BIOS instructions.

Before installing the operating system, you also need to make the BIOS related settings so that the system installation work order. The BIOS is a set of programs that solidify to the previous ROM chip in the motherboard, which holds the most important basic input/output programs for the computer, System setup information, power-on self-test procedures, and system startup bootstrap procedures. After the computer power on the power-on self-test, at this point according to the system prompts to press the DELETE key to enter the BIOS program settings interface.

Different types of motherboards to enter the BIOS Setup program method will be different, the specific entry method, please note the screen prompts after the boot.

The basic functions of the BIOS setup program are as follows:

Standard CMOS Features (Standard CMOS feature settings): Use this option to set the basic system configuration, such as time, date, IDE device, floppy drive parameters, and so on.

Advanced BIOS Features (Advanced BIOS feature Settings): Use this option to set advanced features for the system.

Advanced chipset Features (Advanced chipset feature Settings): This menu allows you to set up the motherboard chipset.

Integrated peripherals (External device setting): Set up all peripheral devices. such as sound card, modem and USB keyboard are turned on.

Power Management Setup (source management settings): To the CPU, hard disk and display equipment, such as energy-saving functions to run the way to set.

PNP/PCI configurations (Plug and play/PCI parameter setting): Sets the PNP Plug and Play interface of ISA and the parameters of PCI interface, this function is only valid when the system supports PNP/PCI.

PC Health status (computer health): Mainly display the system automatically detect the voltage, temperature and fan speed and other related parameters, but also can set overload when the alarm and automatic shutdown to prevent the failure occurred.

Frequency/voltage controls (Frequency/voltage control): Set the CPU frequency multiplier, set whether the automatic detection of CPU frequencies.

Load Fail-Safe Defaults (load the safest default): Use this option to load the factory defaults as a stable system usage.

Load optimized Defaults (load high performance defaults): Use this option to load the best performance but have the potential to affect the stability of the default values.

Set Supervisor Password (set Superuser password): Use this option to set the Superuser password.

Set user Password (set password): Use this option to set the user password.

Save & Exit Setup (Disk exit): Select to save changes to the BIOS and exit the Setup program.

Exit without saving (do not save exit): Select this to discard the BIOS modifications that are not saved and exit the Setup program directly.

Standard BIOS settings

In the BIOS Setup Main page, select the standard CMOS features option via the arrow keys and press ENTER to enter the standard setup page of the BIOS. Before BIOS setup, it is necessary to know some control keys functions, as shown in the following table.

The standard setup entries for the BIOS set up information about the computer's date, time, floppy drive, CD drive, and so on.

1. Set the system date and time

The date and time of the system can be modified in the standard BIOS setup interface by moving the cursor to the date and timing options by pressing the arrow keys, and then pressing the page up/page down or +/&s722 key.

2. IDE Interface settings

IDE interface settings are primarily set for the number, type, and working modes of the IDE devices. Computer motherboards typically have two IDE connector slots, one IDE cable can be up to two IDE devices, so you can connect up to 4 IDE devices on a typical computer. The meanings of the items in IDE interface settings are as follows:

IDE Primary Master: The primary IDE Connector for the first set of IDE slots.

IDE Primary Slave: The first set of IDE slots from the IDE interface.

IDE Secondary master: The primary IDE Connector for the second set of IDE slots.

IDE Secondary Slave: The second set of IDE slots from the IDE interface. After you select an IDE interface, you can select the hard drive type by either the Page up/page down or the/+ key: Manual, none, or auto. Where manual indicates that the user is allowed to set parameters for the IDE device. None indicates that the computer BIOS settings are not detected on the drive, the most commonly used is to set the computer's first startup items, such as the use of a shutdown to install some software, you need to set the BIOS, the BIOS first boot to set the CD-ROM to boot, so that the computer can be restarted after the switch to install software. Of course, can also be in the computer BIOS, check the health of the computer, such as CPU temperature.

The device on the IDE interface that masks the IDE devices on the interface, auto indicates that the IDE device's parameters are automatically detected. It is recommended that you use Auto to enable the system to automatically find hard drive information.

3. Set floppy drive (Drive a/drive B)

The Drive A and Drive b options are used to select the type of floppy drive installed. The general motherboard BIOS supports two floppy disk drives, known as A and B disks in the system, corresponding to drive A and drive B in the BIOS setup. If the floppy drive is connected to a distorted end of the data cable, it should be set to drive A in the BIOS. If the connection is not distorted in the middle of the data line, it should be set to drive B in the BIOS. There are 4 options in the floppy drive settings: None, 1.2MB, 1.44MB, and 2.88MB, which are now almost all 1.44MB 3.5in floppy drives, so depending on the location of the floppy disk connection cable, set to "1.44mb,3.5in" at the corresponding drive A or drive B. To If the floppy drive is not installed on the computer, both drive A and drive B are set to none.

4. Set display mode (Video/halt on)

Video items are display mode settings, the general system default display mode is EGA/VGA, no need for users to modify. Halt on is a system error setting that is primarily used to set the corresponding action that the computer should take when an error occurs in post.

5. Memory Display

The Memory Display section has 3 options: Base Memory (basic memory), Extended Memory (extended memory), and total Memory (gross memory), which cannot be modified. Press ESC when the standard CMOS settings are complete to return to the BIOS setup main interface.
