System Restore, is to restore the computer to a previous state, regain the performance at that time. The System Restore function can solve the system failure or unstable state caused by various reasons. Because the System Restore function is completely reversible (the user can always undo the restore or choose another restore point to restore the computer to), it does not damage or lose the user's files.

System Restore is a function of restoring the system without losing the user's files, which is not possible for any "reloading Dafa". But to fully play the role of Windows Me, you must also have the necessary operational skills:

Create a restore point

The Windows me restore system is based on the "restore point" it creates. Typically, the system creates a regular scheduled checkpoint every 10 hours after the computer is run, or when the shutdown time is longer than 24 hours, by System Restore, which requires the computer to be idle for several minutes. However, this automatically created restore point does not guarantee that the system is completely "clean," and recommends that you follow the following procedure after you first install Windows Me.

First check that System Restore is enabled and that the allocated hard disk space is appropriate. In Control Panel, open the Performance tab in System Properties, click the File System button in the file System properties to check whether disable System Restore is selected in the Troubleshooting tab of the FileSystem attributes, or remove the check box (on the hook). Next, open the hard Disk tab in the dialog box and see how much hard disk space The Windows Me has allocated to System Restore. The default minimum space is 200MB, up to eight hundred or nine hundred MB to 1GB (related to the size of C disk space). Everyone should be based on the installation of the program how much to determine the use of System Restore space, if you do not have a large program such as Office 2000, MB of hard disk space is enough, otherwise it is best to set the larger.

To create a restore point manually, click the start → program → attachment → System restore command in the System Tools menu to open the dialog box. If you are using System Restore for the first time, you will be given two options for restoring your computer to previous time and creating a restore point, or you will have one more option to undo the last restore operation. After you select the second item (after you have installed your system and other essential software), click Next, and then continue to next after you enter the description of the current restore point (such as original state) in the Restore Point description box. The dialog box now shows "Confirm new System Restore point". There are three buttons in the lower right corner, if you want to modify the description of the restore point, you can click the Back button, and if you want to create another restore point, you can click Home to return to Figure 1, or click OK to create a new restore point.

Of course, if you don't create a restore point manually, as long as System Restore is not disabled, it will also create restore points on a regular basis, but these restore points have a certain randomness. In order to ensure that the system can return to its original state, it is necessary to create a restore point manually.

System Restore under GUI interface

In the event that Windows fails, as long as you are able to enter the GUI interface (normal or Safe mode), you can open the Welcome to System Restore dialog box as described above, selecting the first item in Figure 1, "Restore your computer to a previous time." Then click the Next button to open the Select Restore Point dialog box. dialog box displays a calendar with a slightly larger bold text showing the date with the restore point. Click the date to display descriptive information about it on the right side of the calendar, and if you have created multiple restore points within the same day, you must select one of them. Then, as soon as you click the "Next" button continuously, the system will start the restore operation, the system will automatically restart after completion. If the restore fails, the system retains its state before the restore, at which point you can change a restore point, or add some hard disk space to the System Restore to try.

It is necessary to note that the impact of the restore operation on the system is related to the file type. Programs that are installed after the restore point and that affect the system are deleted, but the user files created by those programs are not lost. For example, the author uses discovery that the Office Help files that were installed after the restore point are not deleted. For security reasons, it is recommended that users save their files in My Documents because all files in this folder will not be restored. In addition, the restore operation ignores the changes in e-mail, browsing history, and favorites to protect the user's work results. Non-executable files, existing files (such as databases that have been manipulated and changed) are not restored.

System Restore in real mode

If Windows Me does not enter the GUI interface, you will need to perform a restore or cancel restore operation using the Startup disk of Windows Me.

Before you do this, you open the Add Remove Program dialog box in Control Panel, click the Create Startup Disk button on the Startup Disk tab, and make a startup disk dedicated to Windows Me (you cannot replace it with a normal DOS or win 98 boot disk).

Once a serious failure occurs, start the computer with a prepared boot disk, and then select the Startup options under Windows Me startup Menu as appropriate. If you are experiencing a problem where a safe mode restore fails to enter Windows Me, you will be prompted to cancel the last restore. You should choose 1-revert the Restore Changes Made to my System, and if you choose 2, you will no longer be able to cancel the restoration from the boot disk.
