How to achieve shared Internet access through a Broadband Router

During campus network construction, most schools use high-price broadband routers with many features to allow LAN users to share fast ADSL or HDSL access to the Internet and achieve interconnection between LAN and LAN, however, the high price and difficulty in management and maintenance have brought some problems to the school, the experience provided in this article may inspire schools with insufficient funds to achieve LAN Internet sharing.

As our school has recently achieved the goal of surfing the Internet on campus, we need to build a LAN to share broadband Internet access. In terms of sharing, we no longer use the traditional Windows 98 + Wingate to achieve multi-host internet sharing.

This is because:

(1) The hardware configuration of the proxy server is relatively high. When running some large software on the server, the network may be unstable.

(2) If a problem occurs on the proxy server, computer users in the LAN will not be able to share the Internet, which will affect normal teaching work.

(3) Setting proxy software on the server is also troublesome. the proxy server is online for a long time, which is not conducive to LAN security.

(4) If we want Internet computer users to access the Web or FTP servers in the LAN, it will be difficult to use proxy to access the Internet. It can be seen that there are many inconveniences and restrictions on accessing the Internet through the proxy server, so we chose to share the Internet through a Broadband Router. This method is convenient and practical. Next, we will introduce this method.

Broadband Router Selection

During the establishment of Internet shared bandwidth, we chose IP502H Broadband Router (1 ), this Broadband Router allows all users on the LAN to share the fast ADSL or Cable Modem to access the Internet, and also supports LAN to LAN connections. It has a 10 M/M Adaptive Ethernet interface, which is very suitable for Internet access needs of schools, small and medium enterprises and Internet cafes. The management method uses the Web interface, which is easy to use. The built-in DHCP server eliminates the need for administrators to configure your network. In addition, its biggest advantage is not only to save a high-configuration computer that was originally used as a routing gateway, in addition, when a user accesses the internet in the LAN, the connection response speed is significantly faster and the performance is stable than that through the proxy server. The user can dial up the Internet at any time. This type of Broadband Router is small in size, and the power consumption is also small. It is suitable to work online for a long time without occupying space, and its price is much lower than that of a High-configuration proxy server.

Installation and debugging

The connection method of IP502H to ADSL and hub or switch is as follows: connect the ADSL Modem to the IP502H Broadband Router, then, we connect to the vswitch or Hub through the 10 M/M Adaptive Ethernet interface of the IP502H Broadband Router, so that we can implement hardware installation for Internet sharing. Finally, as long as the corresponding ADSL dialing software is installed on the host connected to the switch, and the user name and password are set, we can share the Internet through the Broadband Router.
