How to activate the old airplay on the Mac? Airplay is a technology invented by Apple that allows you to send display signals from your Mac to your second-generation or third-generation Apple TV over the cloud. You can also transfer videos and music from itunes, and more and more recent Macs have allowed you to extend or copy your Mac desktop to your TV by airplay mirroring.
Mirroring is really useful, it allows you to get rid of cables and make it easy to do personal presentations, slide shows or watch movies on a big screen, or a high-definition TV as a second computer monitor, but because of the hardware requirements of apple, the strict requirements mirroring function only supports the new Mac, So the old Mac can't output video files through airplay.
Note: Airparrot can be compatible with any system running OS X10.6.8 or updates and based on the Core 2 Duo or higher processor Mac. If your machine is out of date or later than listed below, you can use OS X's own airplay function: the IMac (2011), Mac Mini (2011), MacBook Air (2011), MacBook Pro (early 2011), MAC Pro (late 2013).

After you install Airparrot, the application icon appears in the top menu bar. If your Apple TV is in the same wireless network, your Apple TV will appear in the device (DEVICES) section of the Pull-down menu. Click on your Apple TV and your Mac will start mirroring the desktop to the TV.
2. Expand your Desktop
The display section of the Drop-down menu displays information about the connection screen and the built-in screen. If you choose to extend your desktop, your TV will be part of the Mac desktop and we have a higher resolution screen, as shown above. You need to move the cursor from the Mac to the TV to select the extended desktop.

If you hide or do not open the application window, it will also when there is an application window in the screen, Airparrot will only send one application to your TV. If you hide or do not open the application window, it will also disappear. If multiple applications are open on the screen, click on the specific app option, and you can select a specific open file.

From the Airparrot menu, select the Preferences (Preferences) option to open the Settings window. If you want to get continuous uninterrupted transmission, try to reduce the video quality and resolution. Note, however, that it is hard to watch on TV with a significant reduction in video resolution.
7, stretching applications to fill the TV
If it is slow to transfer to a third-generation Apple TV with a 1080p quality, there is a choice in the Preferences menu to force output at 720p resolution. If the display aspect ratio does not fit the screen when mirroring, you can also stretch the application window to fill the Apple TV screen.
8. Adjust Demo mode
The last option is compatibility mode (compatibility mode), which helps fix some problems that may occur on the OS X10.6, hiding the notification center (Hide Notification Center) option to hide the notification center when mirroring. This is important when you are doing a personal presentation. You can also hide the mouse cursor here
