How much we expect Adobe to come out with an acrobat for Linux. As I mentioned in my blog post, "The rookie sees why Linux can't be popularized", Acrobat, as a commercial software, may not be able to wait for its Linux version. Acrobat has been publishing windows and MacOS versions for generations, without Linux. So how to annotate PDF documents under Linux.

1). With xournal

Xournal PDF As a picture, a new added callout, such as a line, will be xournal its own file form. Xoj save. This is doomed to the modified PDF document can only be opened with Xournal, the original document will not have any changes in the traces. The author uses xournal for a period of time, to bookmark nowhere to find, feel xournal is very unsuitable to read. It also takes up a lot of memory because it loads all the pages of a document at once and transforms it.

2). With Okular

Okular inside can also be labeled, but it is not really in the PDF document, but to produce a corresponding file, the annotation information to save, so that you want to copy the PDF document to another machine, it is necessary to handcuff the file to the past, or you can not see the mark traces. It feels slightly stronger than xournal, but it's not as comfortable as Acrobat's.

3). Install Foxit Reader with wine

After installation, you can annotate the PDF document with Foxit Reader, just like the Foxit reader under Windows. Now I have been using this method, in fact, Foxit Reader has a Linux version, but can not be labeled, just a normal PDF browser.

4). Open Office and Pdfedit

Both software can open the PDF to edit, unlike the annotation, they can change the contents of the original document, such as replacing a sentence. This will be slow to open, and there will be more memory footprint. If you want to use these two things, look at a more than 1000 pages of C + + Primer, I can only say: "Hehe."

5). Adobe Reader for Linux

Some people say that Adobe Reader for Linux can annotate PDF files, but you need to use Acrobat to open annotation permissions, so you must now open windows or MacOS under Acrobat. Trouble to trouble, the author or decided to try, the conclusion is not, because the author even Adobe Reader can not open, open when prompted not to find libgdk_pixbuf_xlib-2.0.so.0.

After a painful search, finally found that this is part of the GDK-PIXBUF package, unfortunately, the world has already entered the era of GDK-PIXBUF2. Fedora is the second generation since 15. On the Adobe official website, the installation requirements are as follows:

32-bit Intel pentium® processor or the same-effect processor Red Hat®linux®ws 5, Suse®linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) 10 or Ubuntu 7 with Service Pack 2 .10;gnome or KDE Desktop environment 512MB RAM (recommended 1GB) MB free hard disk space (additional MB required for installing all supported font packs) GTK + (GIMP Toolkit) user Interface Library, version 2.6 or higher Firefox The second column of the 2.x or 3.0 OpenLDAP and CUPS library is estimated to be all the operating system versions it supports.
