How to automatically number pictures in a Word document
In fact, as long as each document writer follows the following steps to number the picture, you can make the merged document automatically number the picture:
Add a caption like "Figure 1 XXXX" below the picture
To make it easier to find and read, we need to number the picture and insert the caption in the following steps:
(1) Position the cursor where you want the caption to be added below the picture.
(2) Open the References tab and click the Insert Caption button in the caption Options group to open the Caption dialog box.
(3) Open the label Drop-down list to see if there is a suitable caption, or, if not, click the New Label button to open the New Label dialog box.
(4) Enter "Figure" in the Label text box and click OK to return to the Caption dialog box.
(5) Click the OK button and insert the caption's label and number ("Figure 1") in the article as shown in Figure 1.

(6) Add the appropriate text behind the inserted caption. The effect is as shown in Figure 2.

(7) For other pictures to add captions, respectively, "Figure 2", "Figure 3" and other words. It is worth mentioning that, if you omit the 2nd picture, set the following first, and then set the caption for the 2nd chart, it will intelligently display the words "Figure 2", and the next side of the picture will be followed by the number of the sequence plus 1.
