Backup and recovery is what system administrators often do, including ROOTVG backups and user data backups.
1. Backup of operating system and System program:
Insert a new tape or unwanted tape into the tape drive
#tctl-F/dev/rmt0 Rewind
#smit MKSYSB
Add "/dev/rmt0" to the backup device or file, and then enter.
The system will run for a long time until the screen is OK to take out the tape. At this point, the system backup is complete. Attention:
MKSYSB only backs up the installed file systems in ROOTVG.
2. User Data Backup
Common Tape drive options
/DEV/RMT0: If you choose/dev/rmt0, the tape drives the tape back to the head when you insert the tape and write the tape once.
Therefore, the next backup file will overwrite this backup.
/dev/rmt0.1: If you select/dev/rmt0.1, the tape drive does not reverse the tape when the tape is inserted and the tape is finished.
As a result, a tape can back up several files or file systems continuously.
#smit FS
Select "Back Up file System"
Add "File system name" to be backed up
Add "/dev/rmt0.1"
Repeat this to back up multiple file systems on the same tape.
3. Recovery of ROOTVG
Start machine into maintenance mode
See the installation Manual when "Welcome to Base operating System installation and Maintanence" appears
Select 3 "Start maintenance Mode for System Recovery"
Recovery system
Continue to select 4 "Install from System Backup"
The "Choose mksysb Device" screen appears, select "/dev/rmt0" and insert the tape back. This time, the system automatically restores the operating system.
4. User Data Recovery
#tctl-F/dev/rmt0 Rewind
#smit FS
Select "Recover File System"
Add "Device name" and "Target directory"
The system will automatically find the appropriate directory restore.
