How to build a VCAC 6.2 lab environment in VMware Workstation-Part II

FreeNAS Installation

FreeNAS will be used to provide virtual NFS storage for ESXi hosts so that ESXi hosts can implement advanced features such as Vmotion, Ha, and more. I allocated 1GB memory, 4 Vcpus, 2GB system disk to FreeNAS, virtual machine DNS name:FreeNAS.contoso.com.

1. Create the FreeNAS virtual Host in VMware Workstation. In the Create Wizard, remember to select the ISO file for FreeNAS.

2. Boot wait to FreeNAS installation screen, select install/upgrade.

3. Default until the installation begins. Wait for the installation to complete with success information.

4. The Click OK button automatically returns to the installation main screen. Select the Reboot System button to restart the virtual machine. (Remember to uninstall the ISO file)

5. The console menu for FreeNAS appears after the reboot is complete. FreeNAS the installation is complete.

Domain controller and DNS server installation

Microsoft's Active Directory is used in most enterprise environments, and my test environment is no exception. To conserve resources, the domain controller and DNS service were installed on the same Windows Server R2, and eventually I only allocated 256MB memory, 1 Vcpus, 60GB disks, virtual machine DNS name:DC01.contoso.com.

1. After you install the Standard Edition of Windows Server R2, boot to the desktop (if the virtual machine is cloned, you must first run the command:c:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe/generalize/ Reboot/oobe), then rename the computer name , configure the fixed IP address , do not set the DNS address, and restart the server.

2. Open Server Manager, open add Roles and Features, leave all the default options, all the way to the next step until you add Active Directory Domain Services role, and then start the installation.

3. Do not close the wizard after completing the installation, click Promote This server to a domain controller.

4. Select the Add a new Forest option. Make contoso.com a domain.

5. To keep the default option, you only need to enter the drsm password .

6. Leave all the default options until you start the installation. Some warning messages may appear in the middle, which can be ignored. When you are finished, Windows restarts automatically.

7. Try to ping contoso.com, if the IP address resolves correctly, the domain controller and the DNS service are finished with this installation.

VCenter Server Installation

My vcenter server is installed on Windows Server R2, first make sure that the server has a domain and that it is running the C:\windows\System32\Sysprep\ Sysprep.exe/generalize/reboot/oobe
rebuilds the SID. I gave 6GB memory, 2 Vcpus, 40GB HDD. Virtual machine DNS name: VC01.contoso.com .

1. Load the Vcenter CD and run the Setup program.

2. In order to build the environment quickly , I use the simple install method, if you want to install and use the external database in a step, remember to install the SQL Native Client and configure ODBC.

3. Simple Install all options are kept default, the only thing you need to enter is [email protected] password.

4. There may be a prompt to stop the script during installation (stop running this script?), so you must choose Noto keep the script running. If you choose Yes, you'll need to step through the installation again.

5. The rest of the steps remain the default option, waiting for the final hint of the Vcenter component to continue installing VMware after all
   vSphere Client, it's all about default settings.

6. After installation, connect VC01.contoso.comwith vSphere Client and account [email protected] .

7. Install Flash Player.

8. Install Microsoft SQL Server R2 Management Studio Express.

9. The vcenter server installation is complete.

ESXi installation

The ESXi 5.5 Update 2 virtual machine must be mounted on the ISO when it is created, so that VMware Workstation automatically detects that the VM is running the ESXi system. I finally created 3 for each ESXi virtual machine 6GB memory, 4 Vcpus, 6GB Local disk. In particular, it's best not to clone the ESXi virtual machine, which I know will have some strange problems. Since the installation of ESXi 5.5 Update 2 is very simple, I also follow all the default settings in my lab environment, so I don't give specific installation steps here. Virtual machine DNS name:ESX01.contoso.com,ESX02.contoso.com,ESX03.contoso.com.
