How to configure SMTP connector in Exchange

Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 work differently from Exchange Server 5.5. In Exchange Server 5.5, SMTP is an attachment added through the Internet mail service. In Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003, SMTP is local-everything is based on SMTP. The default SMTP virtual server itself can process all Internet traffic inbound and outbound ).
Generally, the main reason for using SMTP is to send emails to a specific domain in a specific way, for example, only forward emails to a specific smart host in this domain, or send HELO instead of EHLO ).
To configure the SMTP connector, please:

  1. Start the Exchange System Manager.
  2. Expand the Management Group container. To do this, clickPlus sign(+ ).
  3. Click the management group you want to use and expand it.
  4. Expand the routing group container.
  5. Click the route group you want to use and expand it.
  6. ClickConnectorContainer. Right-clickConnectorContainer, and then clickNew.
  7. ClickSMTP connector.
  8. InGeneralTab to provide an appropriate identification name for the connector.
  9. Select to use DNS or forward it to a smart host if you relay it on an Internet service provider's email sending server ).
  10. InLocal bridgehead, ClickAdd. Add the server that will become the bridgehead server of the routing group. Assign an SMTP virtual server as the head server of the SMTP connector.
  11. ClickAddress SpaceTab. InConnector Scope, ClickEntire organizationOrRoute Group. When you configure Internet mail service in an earlier version of Exchange Server, you need to clickAdd, ClickSMTPAnd then clickOK. Unless you need outbound email domain restrictions, accept the default setting (*) and keep the cost as 1.
  12. If you have chosen to forward all emails to the smart host, clickAdvancedTab. ClickOutbound SecurityTab, and then select the appropriate authentication method for the Relay host. The default value is "anonymous access ".
  13. ClickOKExit the "Outbound Security" tab.
  14. ClickOKExitAdvancedTab.
  15. ClickOKExit the SMTP connector.
  16. Exit the Microsoft Exchange Routing engine service and SMTP service for these changes to take effect.
