How to connect to the Internet under DOS

When connecting to windows under DOS, you can use the two dos client software in the clinets directory on the Windows NT4 disc, LANMAN dos and msclient 3.0. The former is big and complete, and the latter is simpler. I will talk about it later.

DOS platform, generally dos 6.xx 7. yes, either drdos or pcdos, but if the DOS network client software is installed in a Windows 9x system, note that once the installation is complete, you cannot enter Windows 9x again without using the manual method, because msclient will load ifshlp in config, this driver is not compatible with Windows9x (ifProgramWhen Windows 9x is half started, a blue screen is returned and a vfat error is reported.) In addition, DOS connected programs also interfere with windows.

The clients, msclient, disks, disk1, and disk2 installation files on the NT disc must be used during installation. If you want to install the files on a workstation without an optical drive, you can use two floppy disks to copy the installation file and then install it.

Run Setup in disk1. The default installation directory is C:/net. Do not change it. Note the following options during installation:

1. Select the NIC driver. The msclient uses the ndis2 driver. Some drivers are included in the msclient installation file, but they are old. Drivers of popular NICs such as accton, dlink, and Reltek must be manually specified. Generally, the drivers of these newer NICs are in a directory similar to a:/ndis2/DoS or a:/ndis2dos in the drive floppy disk, select the second item (network adapter not show on list below) during installation, and then manually specify the path of the driver.

2. Next, you need to specify some network names. For example, the computer name of this DOS Workstation must be unique in the LAN, which is the same as that of the traditional Windows network. You also need to specify the name of the Working Group or domain. Generally, the default workgroup is enough. if the name of the Working Group of other computers on your network is not Workgroup, it is better to change the working group name of the Dos workstation to the same name as the Working Group on the original network, so that the DOS Workstation can quickly find other computers on the network after it is started. Generally, you do not need to select whether to log on to the domain, because most of the Dos connections are Windows 9X.

3. You can make some changes to the installation protocol. The default installation protocol is nwlink. You can also select the netbeui protocol or install both of them, but there is no need for it. The netbeui protocol is faster in the LAN than in actual use, but I don't feel any difference between them. If the file to be transferred is large, I feel like nwlink is faster. Of course, if you are not afraid of trouble, you can select the TCP/IP protocol, but this protocol is relatively large, it is undoubtedly a great burden for the valuable general memory of DOS, if you still need to run other programs such as UCDOS and FoxPro after connecting to the Internet, there is no way to use the TCP/IP protocol. No matter which protocol is installed, the corresponding nwlink or IPX/SPX protocol must be installed on Windows or other computers connected by the Dos workstation.
The installer has obtained sufficient information. The following installation steps are generally followed by a carriage return.

Restart the computer (Note that if Windows 9x exists on this computer, you must press F8 to start to DoS at startup ). Each time the system loads a driver, it basically prints some information on the screen. You can check whether the loading is correct. If the first startup is normal, the last step is to stop at the place where you need to enter the user name and password. Otherwise, the problem may occur. Check carefully which step is wrong.

After logging on to the local machine, you can start using the network. Common Commands include:

Net view // computername 〔

Net use [Driver letter:] // computername/shareresource
Wherein, 'driver letter: 'is the local virtual drive letter to be mapped, usually starting from the last letter Z.

Net use [Driver letter:]/d Delete ing

Other commands can use net /? .

Note:
1. Generally, the DOS Workstation can only share resources of other Windows computers. The msclient does not provide service functions. However, Microsoft has provided the msclient patch that supports the server function (that is, resources can be shared with others), so that the two dos computers can connect to each other. 2. as mentioned above, the network card drivers in the msclient are very old, and now the new network card drivers need to be manually specified. This is troublesome to use. If you are still dealing with DOs frequently, you may wish to make it a permanent one, add the driver of the new Nic to the msclient installation package. In this way, select the NIC as needed and no longer need to insert the boot program floppy disk. Besides, the quality of the current floppy disk is really ℃ #! # ℃ $ % ℃ # $ %. I have been thinking about this job for six years, but I am not free. Interested colleagues can refer to: http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/Doscl3up.htm
