3. Click Add or Remove Programs.
4. In the list of currently installed programs, click Windows Internet Explorer 8, and then click Delete.
Note: If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the list of installed updates, try using alternate steps for Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.
5. Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
6. After the program uninstall completes, restart the computer.
Alternate steps for Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
1. Carefully select and copy the following command:
%windir%ie8spuninstspuninst.exe
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type Cmd.exe, and then press Enter.
4. Right-click inside the Cmd.exe window, and then click Paste to paste the command you copied in step 1.
5. Press Enter to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
6. After the program uninstall completes, restart the computer.
Delete IE8 under Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008
To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
1. Close all Programs.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Click Uninstall Program under the Programs category
4. In the task pane, click View Installed updates.
5. In the list of installed updates, double-click Windows Internet Explorer 8.
Note: If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the list of installed updates, try using alternate steps for Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.
6. In the Uninstall Update dialog box, click Yes.
Note: Remind everyone if you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
7. Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
8. After the program uninstall completes, restart the computer.
Alternate steps for Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008
To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
1. Carefully select and copy the following command:
forfiles/p%windir%servicingpackages/m microsoft-windows-internetexplorer-8*.mum/c "cmd/c echo Uninstalling Package @ fname && start/w pkgmgr/up: @fname/norestart "
2. Click Start, and then type Cmd.exe in the Start search box.
3. In the list of programs, right-click Cmd.exe, and then click Run as Administrator.
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
4. Right-click in the Administrator: Command Prompt window, and then click Paste to paste the command you copied in step 1.
5. Press Enter to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
6. After the program uninstall completes, restart the computer.
