How to create a VHD file in Windows 7

VHD files are not unfamiliar to users who use Virtual PCs, and now Microsoft has completely implanted the VHD into the Windows 7 operating system, and VHD files are no longer Virtual PC private domain.

How do I create a VHD file in Windows 7? There are two kinds of methods, one is the pure command line, the other is the graphical interface operation. In order to avoid errors, consider the command line pattern that requires memorizing commands and parameters, and here is an example of how to create, configure, and delete VHD files with a graphical menu action.

Right click on the Start menu or the computer on the desktop, select "Management", into the "Computer Management" window;

In the left column, select Storage-Disk Management, and then right-click to select Create VHD;

You will then see a "Create and attach a virtual disk" window where you need to set the location and size of the VHD file to be saved, and then click OK to confirm the error.

Note: When choosing "Virtual HDD format", dynamic expansion is not recommended unless your hard disk space is very tight.

After a moment, the virtual hard disk is created and you can see the new virtual hard disk in Disk Management: Disk 1;

But this new disk 1 has not yet initialized and allocated volumes and is not yet available, so the next task is to initialize: Right-click Disk 1 and select Initialize disk;

After initialization, you need to create a new volume for this partition, right-click the partition section, select "New Simple Volume", and follow the wizard to click "Next".

Once the volume has been initialized and allocated, the entire creation announcement is complete, and you can use the VHD as a normal disk partition.

If you don't need it for a while, it's easy to get rid of it, too, go to Disk Management, right-click Disk 1, select "Detach VHD" and click "OK" in the pop-up window.

Note: If you check "delete the disk and delete the virtual hard drive file", the data you saved in the virtual hard disk space will disappear until you are sure you no longer need it.
