Before you create a SQL Server 2000 failover cluster, you must configure Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS) and use the Cluster Administrator in Microsoft Windows NT4.0 or Windows 2000 to create at least one cluster disk resource. Before running SQL Server Setup, note the location of the cluster drive in the Cluster Administrator because this information is required to create a new failover cluster. Only SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition supports clustering.
1. In the Welcome screen of the Microsoft SQL Server Setup Wizard, click the Next button.
2. On the Computer Name screen, click Virtual Server and enter the name of the virtual server. If the installer detects that MSCS is running, the default is virtual server, and the Next button is clicked.
3. On the User Information screen, enter the user name and company name. Click the Next button.
4. On the Software License Agreement screen, click the Yes button.
5. On the Failover Clustering screen, enter an IP address for each network configured for client access. That is, you can enter an IP address for each virtual server's network that is used by clients on a public (or mixed) network, select the network to which you want to enter an IP address, and then enter the IP address and click the Add button.
Displays IP addresses and subnets, which are provided by MSCS and continue to enter IP addresses for each installed network until all required networks are populated with IP addresses, click Next.
6. In the cluster Disk selection screen, select the cluster disk group that is used by default to place data files. Click the Next button.
7. In the Cluster Management screen, view the cluster definitions provided by SQL Server 2000. By default, all available nodes are selected. Delete any nodes that do not belong to the definition of the virtual server cluster that you are creating, and click the Next button.
8. In the Remote Information screen, enter the logon credentials for the remote cluster node, which must have administrator privileges on the remote node of the cluster, and click Next.
9. In the Instance Name screen, select the default instance or specify a named instance. To specify a named instance, first clear the Default check box, and then enter the name of the named instance, and then click the Next button.
10. In the Setup Type screen, select the type of installation you want to install, and the installer automatically defaults to the first available cluster disk resource from the previously selected group. However, if you need to specify another cluster drive resource, under Data files, click the Browse button, and then specify the path to the cluster drive resource. Setup will require that you select a cluster drive resource that is owned by the node that is running Setup, and that the drive must be a member of the previously selected cluster group, and click Next.
11. On the Service Account screen, select the service account that you want to run in the failover cluster, and click Next.
12. In the Authentication Mode dialog box, select the authentication mode that you want to use. If you change the selection from Windows Authentication mode to mixed mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server authentication), you need to enter and confirm the SA logon password, and on the Start Copying Files screen, click Next.
13. On the Setup Complete screen, click the Finish button.
If Setup instructs you to restart your computer, do so immediately. After the installation is complete, it is important that you read the messages from the Setup program. Failure to restart any of the specified nodes may result in future setup failures running on any node in the failover cluster.
Attention:
The disk drive letters for the cluster disks must be the same on 12 servers.
2 SQL Server 2000 executables installed on a local disk drive for each node in the failover cluster, the data files are placed on the available cluster disk resources in the previously selected cluster group
