In the past, we used Win98/me operating system image files created using ghost to provide unobstructed access to other computers, which greatly reduced the time required to reinstall the operating system on multiple computers. However, after upgrading to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, since they recognize computer hardware devices, once the hardware changes significantly (such as switching the motherboard or CPU ), it cannot be used as casually as the ghost image of WIN 98. As a result, the user must repeatedly install Windows XP and most applications on a single computer, this is undoubtedly a very annoying thing.

In fact, there is a way to apply the XP ghost image file to any computer, that is, re-encapsulate the operating system, that is, back to the initial installation status, and then make a ghost image. Although the steps are complex, once a hard job is required, you can rest assured. Next, I will take Windows XP as an example to demonstrate how to re-encapsulate the operating system. The same is true for Windows Server 2003.

Step 1: Reduce XP capacity
First, reduce the Windows XP capacity on your computer. The main purpose is to reduce the system size and compress the image file to a maximum of MB to MB, so that you can easily burn the disc.

To significantly reduce the XP capacity, there are two aspects. First, disable the sleep function in "Control Panel"> "power options", that is, cancel the check before "enable sleep" with the mouse (Figure 1), and automatically delete C: \ hiberfil in the root directory. SYS file, which saves roughly the same hard disk space as the virtual memory capacity.

The second is to use the SFC command to delete files in the C: \ windwos \ system32 \ DLL cache folder. The specific method is to click windows assets/purgecache.pdf (sfc.exe and/with a space between them, figure 2). This will free up about MB of capacity.

You can also find and delete files in temporary folders such as temp.

Step 2: uninstall and modify the hardware driver
Open "Device Manager" (click "my computer" → "properties" → "hardware" → "Device Manager ", then, detach the "Network Interface", "Universal Serial Bus Controller", "sound, video and game controller", "Monitor", and "display card" in order ". Specifically, right-click a hardware name and select "detach" (Figure 3 ).

If the system requires a restart, select "no". Do not start it! Because the system will scan the hardware again once it is restarted, and all the changes just made will disappear.

Next, right-click the "ACPI uniprocessor PC" subitem under the "computer" project in the "Device Manager" list, select "Update driver" in the subsequent function menu (Figure 4). In the subsequent dialog box, click "Install from list or specified location" (figure 5 ), click "Next", then click "do not search, I want to select the driver to be installed" (figure 6), and then click "Next; go to the "display compatible hardware" Page and change the model to "standard PC" (figure 7 ). Click "Next" and click "finish" to finish the modification. Then the computer will prompt you to restart the computer. Do not start the computer again. Click "no.

After modifying the ACPI attribute, you should change "Ide ATA/atapi controller" to "standard dual-channel PCI ide controller ". The method is the same as modifying the ACPI attribute. Remember not to restart your computer (figure 8 ).

So far, a "clean" Windows XP system is ready. Next, we can re-encapsulate it.

Step 3: Re-encapsulate Windows XP
The system re-encapsulation tool is provided on the Windows XP installation CD. The path is "CD Directory: \ support \ tools \ deploy. cab "(figure 9), but note that this file can only encapsulate Windows XP operating systems without the Service Pack patch installed.

For Windows XP that has installed the SP1 Patch, you need to download a new version of the encapsulation tool sysprep. Create a folder named sysprep under the c: \ root directory, and decompress deploy. Cab or a new encapsulation tool downloaded from the internet with winrarto C: \ sysprep (Figure 10 ).

1. Double-click the setupingr.exe file. after entering the Windows Installation manager, click "Next" (figure 11 ).

2. Select "Create a new response file" and click "Next" (figure 12 ).

3. In the answer File Usage dialog box, select the second item "sysprep installation" and click "Next" (figure 13 ).

4. Select the Operating System in the "select the platform for installation of this response file" dialog box, and click "Next" (figure 14 ).

5. In the "do you want to install it automatically?" dialog box, select "Yes, full automatic installation" (figure 15), and click "Next.

6. Go to the settings page of Windows Installation Management. On the "custom software" Page (Figure 16), enter the user name and unit, and click "Next.

7. On the "Display Settings" page that appears next, select the color, screen area, and refresh frequency as "use Windows default value" (figure 17) and click "Next.

8. On the "Time Zone" Page, select "Beijing time" (Figure 18) and click "Next.

9. On the "provide product key" Page, enter the installation serial number of Windows XP (Figure 19). Do not enter an error because you cannot go back after entering the next step!

10. Enter your computer name on the "computer name" Page (Figure 20) and click "Next.

11. On the "system administrator password" page, you can enter or not enter the password. I suggest you do not enter the password (Figure 21). It is more convenient to modify the password after installing the system.

Use the default value on the following "network components", "working group or domain", and "Telephone Service" pages. Click "Next.
12. On the "region" Page, select "Chinese (China)" (Figure 22) and click "Next.

13. On the "language" page that appears, select "Chinese (simplified)" (figure 23) and click "Next.

14. Click "Next" on the "install Printer" page to skip installation.

15. Click "Next" on the "Run Once" and "add command" pages shown below, without any configuration.

16. Finally, click the "finish" button (figure 24) on the "OEM repeater string" page ), then, click "OK" (figure 25) in the "storage location of the response file" dialog box that appears. In this way, Windows XP automatically installs the response file. The response file is sysprep. inf, which is stored in the C: \ sysprep folder (figure 26 ).

17. Then, the Windows XP operating system will be officially encapsulated. Double-click the c: \ sysprep \ sysprep.exe file and click "OK" in the warning window (figure 27 ).

18. Enter the "system preparation window" dialog box before encapsulation (figure 28 ). There are four options in the "mark" check box. Among them, items 3 (nosidgen) and 4 (activated in advance) are dedicated to XP and later operating systems. The second is to use minisetup ), the first is to detect non-plug-and-play devices (PNP ). We should select the last two to four items, and then click the "re-encapsulation" button at the top of the interface. The computer will automatically shut down and the re-encapsulation task will be completed. Finally, the use of ghost software to create a high compression ratio of image files, to ensure that Win XP can be backed up to a MB capacity of CD-R burning disc.

19. Considerations

It is best to use the mouse and keyboard of The PS2 interface to prevent the USB mouse and USB keyboard from responding when the general serial bus controller is deleted. Also, do not go to C: the \ sysprep folder stores other files or subfolders, because after the Windows XP system restarts for the first time, it will automatically delete everything in it. Remember that everything from uninstalling the driver to re-packaging must be done in one breath. You must never restart your computer!

Step 4: Burn a ghost image disc
Here, we use the Nero 6.0 CD-Rom recording software as an example.

1. Switch to "Nero expvess" mode after running Nero, and select "data disc"> "enable data disc" from the function menu on the right (figure 29 ).

2. In the "Cd content" window (figure 30), click the "add" button on the right to add the created XP system image and ghost program file. If you want to use the mouse in the Ghost, you should also add the mouse driver.

3. Place the Win98 boot disk in the floppy drive (figure 31), and then click "Next.

4. Go to the "final burning Settings" window, and click "burn" in the lower right corner (Figure 32 ), I just re-encapsulated XP ghost image file and ghost program all burned to the CD-R disc, it was done.

Step 5: How to Use the XP image CD
The usage of this Windows XP image disc is as follows: Set the computer to a disc in the BIOS of the motherboard to start, put the burned disc after the boot, in DOS mode, use ghost to restore the Windows XP image file to the hard disk. This method can also be used to install the Windows Server 2003 operating system using image files on all computers.
