How to create a WinXP domain environment and join a computer to a domain

Description:

You must log on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group to complete the following procedure. If your computer is already connected to a network, the related network policy settings may also prevent you from completing the work.

1, log on to the computer as the administrator. Right-click My Computer (My Computer) and select Properties on the shortcut menu that appears later. The System Properties dialog box appears on the screen.

2, on the Computer name (computer name) tab, click Change (Modify). As shown in Figure 1, in the Computer name Changes (computer name Modification) dialog box, select Domain and enter the domain name in the corresponding text box. In the example described in this article, the computer currently named Hq-res-wrk-o1 has been added to the domain named Reskit.

3, enter the user name and password used for authentication to prove that you have the right to participate in the relevant domain.

4. When the message that Welcome to the domain (Welcome to join) appears, click OK. You must restart your computer for the changes that you make to take effect.
