For users who want an easy-to-use interface, Ubuntu is a good Linux release, and it can be said to be the best Linux release for a new Linux user. However, this produces some side effects, that is, for the interface and appearance, Canonical has made a lot of settings for users, especially the Unity desktop environment.

However, these are not static. The following are some tips on how to make your use of Ubuntu more comfortable. After reading my Ubuntu settings above, you can see how my Unity desktop is different from the default desktop settings.

Next let's implement customized Ubuntu desktop step by step.

1. install the Unity Tweak Tool

You have to install the Unity Tweak Tool before you can effectively modify the appearance of Ubuntu. This is a special configuration management software in the Unity desktop environment, and you can use it to replace system icons and themes. You can download the software from the Ubuntu Software Center. if you prefer terminal, you can also use the following command:

  1. sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool

If you are using the Gnome desktop environment, you may need to try the Gnome Tweak Tool software. You can also install the software from the Ubuntu Software Center and by using the following command:

  1. sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool

2. install GTK themes

There are many customized themes for Ubuntu, which can affect the appearance of applications and windows. The topic I am using is Numix GTK +. You can go to http://numixproject.org/to find more information about the numixtopic and graph. You can install the Numix topic by opening the terminal and entering the following command:

  1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:numix/ppa
  2. sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install numix-gtk-theme

To make the topic take effect, open the Unity Tweak Tool, select the "topic" option under "Appearance Title", and then select the topic in the "existing topic" column. If the corresponding software repository name is the same, you can repeat the process to apply it to other themes. You can access the Gnome-Look.org to get more theme. Another theme that is very similar to Numix is Moka. you can obtain it at http://mokaproject.com/
