How to expand the size of a Virtual Disk in a Virtual Machine (illustration)

A lot of virtual machine users cannot predict how much space they need after installing the system on the Virtual Machine. After using the system for a while, they find that the disk space of the virtual machine is insufficient. How to solve it?

Method 1,
Add a hard disk in the virtual machine configuration.

Click Edit Virtual Machine Settings

Click Next to add a hard disk.

The next step is to follow the prompts.
This method is not the best. Adding a hard disk does not have much impact on the performance of the virtual machine.

Method 2:
Use VMware's own tool to expand the hard disk
1. First, find the installation path of VMware and find the installation path from the VM's shortcut attributes.

In the installation folder, we can see this command:
Vmware-vdiskmanager.exe

This command must be run in the command line.
Enter the command line status.

C:/program files/vmware workstation> vmware-vdiskmanager.exe
VMware Virtual Disk Manager-build 19175.
Usage: vmware-vdiskmanager.exe options diskname | drive-letter:
Offline disk manipulation Utility
Options:
-C: create disk; need to specify other create options
Create a new disk
-D: defragment the specified Virtual Disk
Disk fragmentation
-K: shrink the specified Virtual Disk
Compress a specified Disk
-N <source-disk>: Rename the specified virtual disk; Need
Specify destination disk-name
Rename a disk
-P: Prepare the mounted Virtual Disk specified
The drive-letter for shrinking
-Q: Do not log messages
-R <source-disk>: Convert the specified disk; need to specify
Destination disk-type
Convert Disk Type
-X <New-capacity>: Expand the disk to the specified capacity

Additional options for create and convert:
-A <adapter>: (for use with-C only) adapter type (IDE, buslogic o
R lsilogic)
-S <size>: capacity of the Virtual Disk
-T <disk-type>: disk type ID

Disk types:
0: single growable Virtual Disk
1: growable Virtual Disk split in 2 GB files
2: preallocated Virtual Disk
3: preallocated Virtual Disk split in 2 GB files

The capacity can be specified in sectors, kb, MB or GB.
The acceptable ranges:
IDE adapter: [100.0 MB, 950.0 GB]
SCSI adapter: [100.0 MB, 950.0 GB]

However, my hard disk partition table NTFs and DOS cannot be accessed. What should I do?

Use the VMware diskmanager GUI to adjust the virtual hard disk

To ensure that the program can be normally used on your machine, install it first (you must install it first ~)

Install the SDK directly after the download, as shown in figure

In the browsing dialog box, select the selected gray vmdk file, which is the "Starting Sign" of the virtual hard disk (you can say that !) Not those 001,002,003 ...... Woo ~

After confirmation, a dialog box is displayed, prompting you what the current information of your hard disk is.

Click "OK" and write the size of the hard disk to be changed in disksize, which is the size after modification ~

Click the "Expand disk" key.

A dialog box will pop up later, prompting you that the extension is successful.

You open your VMWare, and you will find that the hard disk becomes

However, when you enter the system, the C disk is still displayed as 8 GB.

Open "my computer" -- Right-click -- manage -- disk management, and you will see that the drive C is 4 GB more, but it is not used, and it is not integrated with drive C, outside the partition.

Next, install PQ to the virtual system, and then use PQ to expand the space for drive C.

Select drive C, highlighted in red, select "adjust the capacity of a partition" in the right menu bar, and then click Next. In this step, copy the maximum capacity value to the text box below, next,

Next, we can see that the drive C has become larger.

Go back to the menu on the right and you will see that clicking "application" makes the hard disk actually expand.

The operation is successful.

The system also finds the hard disk and installs new hardware.

Then you can see that the hard disk is actually getting bigger. Remember to restart it ~

Now, VMWare has expanded its hard disk space!
