How to fail sharing printer connection under XP system

WinXP shared printer connection failed, the first thing to think of is to reconnect the print server, the connection is successful before you need to consider the next action.

The specific steps for printer sharing are as follows:

1. Configure the printer host

First we need to configure the printer on the host. We refer to the computer directly attached to the printer as "host", while other computers in the local area network that need to share the print with the host are called "clients".

The first step: Connect the printer to the host, turn on the printer power, through the host's control panel into the Printers and Faxes folder, right-click in the margin, select the Add Printer command, open the Add Printer wizard window. Select "Connect to this computer's local printer" and check the "Automatically detect and install Plug and Play printers" checkbox.

Step two: The host will be testing the new printer, will soon find a connected printer, as prompted by the printer included in the driver CD into the CD drive, the printer's driver installed, in the Printers and Faxes folder will appear in the printer's icon.

Step three: Click the right mouse button on the newly installed printer icon, select the Sharing command, open the Properties dialog box for the printer, switch to the Sharing tab, select Share this printer, and fill in the Share name input box with the name you want to share, such as HP1020 Plus, click OK button to complete the shared settings.

2. Configure Network Protocols

In order for the printer to be shared smoothly, we must install the File and Printer sharing protocol on both the host and the client. Right-click My Network Places on the desktop, select the Properties command, go to the Network Connections folder, right-click on the local Area Connection icon, and select Properties, if not found in the "This connection uses the following items" list on the General tab File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, you need to click the Install button, select Services in the pop-up dialog box, click Add, select File and Printer sharing in the Select Network Service window, and then click OK to complete.

3. Installation and configuration of the client

Now that we have done all the work on the host, we are going to configure the client that needs to share the printer. Let's assume that the client is also the Windows XP operating system. Every computer in the network that wants to use a shared printer must have a print driver installed.

First step: click start → settings → printers and faxes to start the Add Printer Wizard and select the Network Printers option.

Step two: There are several ways to add a network printer on the Specify Printers page. If you do not know the specific path of the network printer, you can choose to "Browse the printer" selection to find the local area network in the same workgroup share of the printer, has installed the printer's computer, then select the printer and click "OK" button;

You can also install it through My Network Places. Method: In the desktop "Network Places" point right--search the computer---in the computer name on the left to enter the print server's computer name or IP address--and then click "Search" to find the computer print server opened after the shared printed icon on the right click, A little more connection is OK.

The third step: Then the system will you enter the printer name again, after the loss, click the "Next" button, and then press the "Completion" button, if the host set up a shared password, here is required to enter a password. Finally, we can see that the icon for the shared printer already appears in the Printers and Faxes folder of the client.

Here we have the network printer installed.

Note: Please see if the firewall in your system "control Panel" is turned off? Or if there is a third-party firewall installed in the system, you can turn the firewall off or set the firewall security to "medium" or "low". For example, rising, it can be set to low.
