In the Word2013 document, users can automatically generate numbers when they enter numbers directly by using the AutoFormat As You type feature. The user first needs to enable the Automatic Numbering list AutoFormat option, and the steps to automatically generate a number are described below:
Step 1th, open the Word2013 document window, and click the file → options button, as shown in Figure 1.

Step 2nd, in the Open Word Options dialog box, switch to the Proofing tab, and in the AutoCorrect Options area, click the AutoCorrect Options button, as shown in Figure 2.

Step 3rd, open the AutoCorrect dialog box and switch to the AutoFormat As You Type tab. The automatically apply when typing area confirms that the AutoNumber list check box is selected and clicks the OK button, as shown in Figure 3.

Step 4th, return to the Word2013 document window, enter any number in the document (for example, enter Arabic numerals 1), and then press the TAB key. Then enter the specific text content, press the ENTER key to automatically generate the number. Press ENTER two consecutive times to cancel the numbering status, or click the number Drop-down button in the paragraph group of the start Ribbon to cancel the AutoNumber status by selecting the None option in the open numbered list, as shown in Figure 4.
