As a virtual machine tool, VMWare is used by many people to achieve the peaceful coexistence of Linux and Windows. Compared with the common multi-boot mode, with Vmware, Linux is no longer picky about disk space, and does not need to require a single partition as many systems do. You can settle in any windows partition, in addition, Windows and Linux can run simultaneously. The following uses Red Hat 7.3 as an example to describe how to configure a video card in a virtual machine.

Attach VMware Tools

 

 

 

Since it is a virtual machine, its hardware is also virtual, and the driver of the "virtual" device cannot be correctly installed in conventional ways.Program. However, VMWare provides a dedicated tool, VMware Tools, to help you correctly install and set virtual graphics cards. VMWare 3.1.1 build 1790 (with a Chinese patch already installed) is used as an example to introduce three methods for loading VMware Tools.

1. After starting the VM, click the "set" menu> "VMware tool installation" menu on the VMware main interface, and then click "Install" in the pop-up dialog box.

2. when red hat is started and run in VMware, the status bar at the bottom of it will always remind you to install the VMware tool. You only need to click here (1), and the subsequent steps are the same as the first method.

After using the above two methods to load VMware Tools, you will find that the "device" menu on behalf of the optical drive → "ide1: "0" indicates that the menu item is changed to \ VMware Workstation \ Programs \ Linux. ISO. This indicates that VMware regards the image file Linux. ISO as a vm cd. Therefore, VMware Tools must be stored on this image file. This inspired us to directly set the image file as a virtual disk:

◆ Click "set"> "Edit configurator" to open the "Edit configurator" dialog box.

◆ In the dialog box selected "DVD/CD-ROM (IDE 1:0)" list items, you can see that the virtual machine drive has two connection methods, one is to directly use the physical drive, the other is to use an ISO image. Select the latter.

◆ Click the Browse button to specify the path of the Linux. ISO image file (in the VMware installation directory \ VMware Workstation \ Programs \ Linux. ISO. For the entire process, see Figure 2.

Install Virtual Machine graphics card

 

 

 

From the above steps, we can see that only VMware Tools is loaded (the VMware Tools disc is inserted into the optical drive of the Virtual Machine), and it has not been entered into the house. The following describes how to install it:

1. First, log on to the text logon interface with your root account and password.

2. Mount the optical drive device, type "Mount-T iso9660/dev/CDROM/mnt" in the command line, and press Enter.

3. After the optical drive is mounted successfully, run the "CD/mnt" command to enter the/mnt directory, and then run the "ls" command to display the content. At this time, we found a file: vmware-linux-tools.tar.gz, which is the Linux installation package of VMware Tools.

4. Then copy the file to the tmp directory and type the "CP/vmware-linux-tools.tar.gz/tmp" command.

5. Now that the mission of the VM optical drive is complete, uninstall it and run the "umount/dev/CDROM" command.

6.to decompress the vmware-linux-tools.tar.gz file. First enter the tmp directory, run the "CD/tmp" command, and then run the "Tar zxf vmware-linux-tools.tar.gz" command to decompress it, release it to the directory with the same name (that is, the vmware-Linux-tools directory ).

7. run "CD vmware-Linux-Tools" to enter the decompressed directory, and run the "ls" command to display the content under it. PL is the installation program of VMware Tools.

8. Run the installation program using the "./install. pl" command, and press enter as prompted on the screen. The entire installation process is complete.

After the installation is complete, enter the "startx" command at the command prompt and wait patiently for a moment to see how red hat really works (see figure 3 ).

Adjust resolution

 

 

 

When you see red hat, you can't wait to see if there are any shortcomings in the virtual machine. By the way, how is the window of a virtual machine so big? VMware made its own claim to allow the virtual machine to use the display attribute of the host machine (that is, your physical machine) by default. In this way, we have to click the "full screen display" button on the VMware main interface to see the full picture of the VM. To return to the Windows window, we must press the "CTRL + ALT" key combination. This is very troublesome and I cannot feel the superiority of VMware at all. Next we will perform an "operation" on Vmware to force it to use a smaller resolution. For convenience, we assume that the display resolution of the host machine is 1028 × 768.

1. Exit the graphic interface first, and then type "CD/etc/X" in the root @ localhost root directory. Run the "11" command and press enter (note that X here is an uppercase letter followed by two numbers 1 ).

2. In the X11 directory, type the "MC" command and press enter to open the text editor MC that comes with Red Hat 7.3.

3. Find the XF86Config-4.vm file in the MC editor window, this is the virtual machine display information configuration file, press 4 "key to open the configuration file.

4. in this configuration file, find the section "screen" title. The content is the configuration information of the Virtual Machine display. You can find the configuration information similar to the following in it, change the resolution after "Modes" to 800 × 600 higher than 800 × 600.

5. After all the changes are completed, press "F" 2 "key to save, and then press" F 10 "key to exit.

Now try again. The virtual machine is displayed at a resolution of 800x600. In this way, you no longer need to switch back and forth between the host machine and the virtual machine.

Change default logon Mode

 

 

 

The Virtual Machine graphics card is configured only after red hat is installed. Therefore, Red Hat performs text logon by default. It seems that there is nothing wrong with the rough look, but every time you enter the graphical interface, you need to enter the "startx" command. Perform the following operations to allow the system to automatically enter the graphic interface upon Logon:

1. Enter the "CD/etc" command in command mode to enter the/etc directory.

2. Use the MC editor to open the inittab file in the directory, as shown in Figure 5. Set the number in the "ID: 3: initdefault:" sentence in the file. 3 "to number" 5 ". The number" 3 "indicates a text login, number" 5 "indicates logging on as a graphical user. 5.

3. After modification, restart the system and try again. Now you can log on to the graphic interface directly.
