Article Title: Teach you how to install the atigraphics card driver in Linux (figure ). Linux is a technology channel of the IT lab in China. Includes basic categories such as desktop applications, Linux system management, kernel research, embedded systems, and open source.
Today, a friend asked me to help him install Linux on his/her computer. See its configuration: the motherboard is i848, the sound card and the NIC are integrated, and the video card is ATI9550. I originally planned to install FC4, but this friend had to install RH9. He had to install it in less than 40 minutes, but the problem was that the sound card was not pronounced, the video card was not recognized, and the color was so flash that he could not solve it step by step.

First, install the video card

   1. Download The atidriver

Here to download DRIVER: http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp? DeptID = 894 & task = knowledge & folderID = 27

After entering this page, select Linux Drivers and Software, and then select RADEON 8500 Series and higher in Linux x86.

Finally, select ATI Proprietary Linux x86 Drivers for XFREE86/X. Org Version 8.19.10 To Go To The download page. That is:

If you are familiar with the XFree86 version on your computer, you can get the corresponding version. If you are like me, just download the ATI Driver Installer package.

Although the download time is longer, the driver is more comprehensive.

   2. Installation

First of all the/etc/inittab in the startup level to 3, restart, to the root user login to enter the character mode, find the package just below: ati-driver-installer-8.19.10-i386.run

Run:
# Sh ati-driver-installer-8.19.10-i386.run

Then you enter the question mode and press enter all the way. By the way, the last question is to ask if you want to run a browser to access the website. If you have already got the driver, you will not be able to choose NO.

Next, go to the XFree86 settings. Enter:
# Fglrxconfig

This will also cause a question. Generally, you can select the default item. If the default item is not provided, You must select the item based on the actual situation and needs, such as the mouse, keyboard, color depth, and resolution. Finally, the computer will check whether you have written the configuration file. The installation is complete. However

In the/etc/inittab, change the startup level to 5. Then restart the computer.

   3. Notes

After logging on to the graphic interface as a root user, check the display settings. You will find that the video card type is "Unknow video card". Isn't ATI9550 very disappointing? Don't worry. Are you sure you want to see the driver fglrx? If yes. For example:

Maybe you will ask why the video card type is not ATI9550, which may be ATI9550 (I .e., ATI9600 simplified version) for the Chinese market, so I didn't recognize it. In fact, in FC4, 9550 is regarded as 9600. Although not recognized, it does not affect the use. If you believe it again, set it wrong.

You can also use fgl_glxgears to test the video card.
