What if the format of your drive C is NTFS? Many hard drive installation methods on the internet place the disc image on the drive C in the format of FAT32. However, many of us use NTFS for drive C. What should we do? This article describes my methods. And how to set various parameters.
Hard Disk Installation
You have downloaded the 9.04 ISO file (or the 8.04 ISO file) from the Internet. We recommend that you use the ubuntu8.04 enhanced version for some old computers.
Preparations:
Ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso: This is not much said, of course is necessary.
Grub4dos-0.4.4.zip: only two files in the compressed package: grldr and menu. lst
Start Installation
1. note that the C drive requires 8 GB space. My computer-management-disk management will format the D Drive in FAT32 format, in addition, the free space is about 10 GB (the 10 Gb free space is used to install UBUNTU ).
2. Copy the ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso to the d root directory.
3. Use WinRAR to open the ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso file, and then extract the Casper folder to the C and D root directory.
4.open the case folder under drive C and drive D, and copy the initrd.gz and vmlinuz files to the root directory of drive C and drive D.
5.use winrarto open the grub4dos-0.4.4.zip file, and extract the grldr and menu. lst files to the C and D root directories.
6. Edit menu. lst and open it with a WordPad. Do not use notepad or word. Add the following four lines to the end of menu. lst.
Title install Ubuntu 9.04
Root (hd0, 4)
Kernel/vmlinuz boot = Casper iso-Scan/filename =/ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso
Initrd/initrd.gz
In addition, you put the CD image on disk D as root (hd0, 4), and the E disk as root (hd0, 5), and so on.
7. Remove the read-only boot. ini from drive C and hide the attributes as follows:
Start-> Run-> input: attrib-r-H-s c:/boot. ini
8. Back up a boot. ini file under the root directory of the C drive, and open the boot. ini file.
Modify timeout = 5
Add the last line C:/grldr = "Install Ubuntu 9.04"
OK. The operation is completed in windows.
9. restart the computer, select install Ubuntu 9.04 from the boot menu, and then select install Ubuntu 9.04 from the menu that appears.
10. Double-click Install On the GUI.
11. Select Chinese (simplified) as the language, and then forward
12. The default time is Shanghai and direct forward. Do not select UTC time. Otherwise, the time for Linux and Windows may be different.
13. The default keyboard layout is USA, directly forward
14. Then there will be a bunch of English letters, which probably means to ask if you want to use the existing hard disk partition structure for installation.
15. Select to manually specify the partition (advanced), and then forward
16. Select Automatic Installation in idle space.
