How to move Exchange 2000 to new hardware and keep the same server name

Move Exchange 2000 to new hardware:

1. Complete backup of all Exchange 2000 storage groups and Site Replication Service (SRS) on an existing Exchange 2000 Server.
2. Take the existing Server offline.
3. Reset the Machine Account of the Exchange 2000 Server.
   1. Start Active Directory users and computers.
   2. Find the Exchange 2000 Server machine account, right-click the account, and then clickReset Account.
4. Bring the new server online and use the same server name.
5. Use the full control of the Exchange 2000 administrator) account to log on to the new server.
6. Install any components required by Exchange 2000, such as Internet Information Service (IIS) and the appropriate Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack.
7. Use the full control of the Exchange 2000 administrator) account to log on to the new server.
8. Run the Exchange 2000 installer using the following parameters:

   Setup/disasterrecovery

   Make sure that you clickOperation-disaster recovery.
9. After the installation is complete, install the Exchange 2000 Service Pack that has been installed on the existing server.
10. Add the following registry string:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Exchange \ Setup DWORD_NAME: ServicePackBuild SP1 HEX_VALUE: 1268 SP2 HEX_VALUE: 1682 SP3 HEX_VALUE: 1869

11. Install any subsequent patches for the Exchange 2000 Service Pack that have been installed on an existing server.
12. In a separate recovery job, recover the storage group and SRS from the Exchange 2000 Server backup.
13. After the restoration is completed, all storage is loaded. Make sure that the client can connect and the mail can flow in.

Remarks: If the IP address of the Exchange 2000 Server is changed, make sure to update the Domain Name System (DNS) record. If the DNS record is not updated, other servers may try to connect to the previous address.
