This topic describes how to restore Microsoft Search.
Before getting started
Before performing the steps in this topic, note that this step contains information about editing the registry.

Procedure
Restore Microsoft Search
In the Registry Editor" In the console tree, delete the following registry items, <ServerName> Is the name of the server running Exchange ):
To delete an item, right-click it and click Delete" And then click "yes" As shown in ). HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Search \ Install

- Hkey_local_computer \ Software \ Microsoft \ Search \ 1.0 \ Indexer \ ExchangeServer_<ServerName>
Deleting Microsoft Search Registry Key
Close Registry Editor.
Run the Exchange installer in disaster recovery mode. At the command prompt, type<Drive>:\ Setup \ i386 \ setup.exe/disasterrecovery, Where <Drive> Is the position of the Exchange CD.
Select components in the Exchange Installation Wizard" "Operations" on the page" For all installed components, "Disaster Recovery" All are automatically selected. To correctly reinstall the Microsoft Search file, go to "component name" Under, SetMicrosoft ExchangeSet to "NONE" , And thenMicrosoft ExchangeReset to "Disaster Recovery" .

When you run the installer in disaster recovery mode, the required Microsoft Search files are installed on your computer. |
Run the Exchange installer in disaster recovery mode.
Click "Next" Continue the installation process.

The Microsoft Search file will be updated during installation. In this case, "Confirm file replacement" may appear" Dialog box. This dialog box prompts you to specify whether to overwrite certain files on the computer. These files are updated compared to files copied from the Exchange installation CD. Because you are trying to fix all Microsoft Search files, you should overwrite these files. However, you can restore the updated versions of these overwritten files when installing the Exchange Service Pack or patches. |
Apply any Exchange Service Pack or patches that previously run on the server. To prevent installation programs from being loaded into the database after installation, you must install the Service Pack and software updates in disaster recovery mode.
If any Exchange database backup must be restored as part of the repair, please restore the Exchange database immediately

Restart the computer and make sure that the Exchange database is mounted.
