It is a strange thing for me to write this article, because I usually advocate installing Ubuntu and uninstalling Windows. Writing this article is a strange thing for me, because I usually advocate installing Ubuntu and uninstalling Windows.

What makes writing this article even more strange today is that I decided to write it on the day when Microsoft decided to stop mainstream support for Windows 7.

So why should I write this article now?

So far, I have been asked on many occasions how to delete the Ubuntu system from a dual system with Windows 7 or Windows 8. Therefore, this article has become meaningful.

During the Christmas period, I browsed people's messages in my articles. I felt it was time to write the missing articles and update the old articles that need attention.

I plan to spend the rest of the month on this. This is the first step. If Windows 7 and Ubuntu are installed on your computer, and you do not want to restore the Windows 7 system by restoring the factory settings, please refer to this tutorial. (Note: For Windows 8 systems, there is an independent tutorial)

Steps required to delete the Ubuntu System
  1. Delete Grub by fixing Windows startup items
  2. Delete the partition where the Ubuntu system is located
  3. Extended Windows system partition

Backup System

Before you start, we recommend that you keep a backup for your system.

I suggest you do not give up the backup opportunity, but do not use the tools that come with Microsoft.

Click to view how to back up your driver using Macrinum Reflect

If you have the data you want to save in Ubuntu, log in now and save the data to an external hard drive, USB drive, or DVD.

Step 1-delete the Grub Startup Menu

When you start the system, you will see a similar menu.

To delete this menu and directly access the Windows system, you must repair the Master Boot Record.

To achieve this, I will show you how to create a system recovery disk, how to start from the recovery disk, and how to repair the Master Boot records.

Click Start to search for backup and restore ". Click the icon that appears.

The same window will be opened.

Click "Create System Repair disc ".

You need an empty DVD disk.

Insert an empty DVD disk into the drive and select your DVD drive from the drop-down list.

Click "create disc ".

Leave the disc in the computer and restart the computer. When a message is displayed, press the "enter" key on the keyboard.

The system recovery option is displayed on the screen ".

It will require you to select your keyboard layout.

Select an appropriate option from the list and click "Next ".

The next interface allows you to select the operating system you want to repair.

Alternatively, you can use the previously saved system image to restore the system.

Select the above options and click "Next ".

Now you will see an interface with options such as hard disk repair and system recovery.

What you need to do is to repair the Master Boot Record, which can be done through a pilot prompt.

Click "command prompt ".

Now you only need to input the following command to the command prompt:

  1. bootrec.exe /fixmbr

Next, a message is displayed, indicating that the operation has been completed successfully.

Now you can close the Command Prompt window.

Click "restart" and take out the DVD.

Your computer will start directly into the Windows 7 system.

Step 2-delete the Ubuntu Partition

To delete Ubuntu, you must use the "disk management" tool provided by Windows.

Press the start button and enter create and format disk partitions in the search box ". A similar window appears.

Now my screen is no longer the same as yours, but it will not be much different. You will see 0th disks with MB of unallocated space and 4 other partitions.

This MB space is an error I made before installing Windows 7. Drive C is Windows 7, and the next partition (46.57 GB) is the root partition of Ubuntu. The GB partition is/HOME, and the 8 GB partition is swap space.

For Windows systems, we only need drive C, so the rest can be deleted.

Note: You can recover partitions on the disk. Do not delete the restored partition. They should have a dedicated volume label. The file system may be NTFS or FAT32.

Right-click the partition you want to delete (for example, root, home, and swap partitions), and click "delete volume" from the pop-up menu ".

(Do not delete any partition of the NTFS or FAT32 file system !)

Repeat the preceding operations for the remaining two partitions.

After the partition is deleted, you will have a large idle area. Right-click the free area and choose Delete.

Now your disk will contain drive C and a large unallocated space.
