In the process of using XP, the system will run slowly over time. Some friends may think of reinstalling the system, but after reinstalling, so many applications need to be re-installed. How can we speed up XP without installing the system? As long as you perform the following nine operations, I believe your XP will run at high speed again.
1. Speed up on/off

When shutdown in Windows XP, the system will send a message to the running program and remote server, telling them that the system is shutting down and the system will start to shut down after receiving a response. To speed up the startup, You can first set Automatic task termination. First, find HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop and set the AutoEndTasks key value to 1. Then there is a "HungAppTimeout" under the branch ", change the value to "4000 (or less). The default value is 50000. Then, locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControl and set WaitToKillServiceTimeout to" 4000 ". The shutdown speed is much faster.

2. Increase the bandwidth speed

Windows XP of Professional Edition retains 20% of the bandwidth by default. In fact, this does not work for our individual users. In particular, it is better to make full use of it.

In Start> Run, enter gpedit. msc to open the Group Policy Editor. Find "Computer Configuration> management template> network> QoS packet scheduler", select "restricted and retained bandwidth" on the right, and select "properties" to open the "restricted and retained bandwidth attributes" dialog box, select "enable" and change the original "20" to "0" to release the reserved bandwidth.

3. Optimize network neighbors

When a Windows XP Network Neighbor is used, the system searches for its shared directory, printers that can be used as network shares, and scheduled tasks related to the network in the scheduled task, the speed will obviously be much slower. If these functions are not very useful to us, we can delete them. In the Registry Editor find versionpoliceremotecomputernamespace, delete the (printer) and {D6277990-4C6A-11CF8D87-00AA0060F5BF} (scheduled task) under it, restart the computer, and access the network neighborhood again, you will find much faster.

4. Speed up startup

To speed up Windows XP startup. You can modify the Registry to achieve the goal. In the Registry Editor, find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementPrefetchParameters, find the EnablePrefetcher primary key on the right, and change the default value 3 to 1, reducing;

5. automatically close the stop Response Program

In some cases, XP will prompt you to stop responding to a certain program, which is annoying. You can disable it by modifying the Registry. In HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop, change the value of the character key value AutoEndTasks to 1, log out or start again.

6. Speed up menu display

To speed up the display of the menu, we can set it as follows: we can find the "MenuShowDelay" primary key under HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop, change its value to "0" to accelerate the display speed of the menu.

7. Clear unused DLL files in the memory

In the HKKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion of the Registry, add an item AlwaysUnloadDLL in Explorer. The default value is 1. Note: If the default value is 0, this function is disabled.

8. Speed up the pre-read capability and improve the boot speed

Windows XP pre-read setting can increase system speed and speed up startup. Follow these steps to make better use of the CPU efficiency: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSessionManagerMemoryManagement]. In the right window of PrefetchParameters, change the value of EnablePrefetcher as follows, if you use a PIII 800 MHz CPU or above, we recommend that you change the value data to 4 or 5. Otherwise, we recommend that you retain the value data as the default value of 3.

9. Reduce project loading during startup

Many applications are automatically added to the system startup group during installation. Each time the system is started, the system runs automatically. This not only prolongs the startup time, but also consumes system resources after the system is started!

Start the "System Configuration Utility", list the projects and sources loaded during system startup in the "Start" item, and carefully check whether you need it to be automatically loaded, otherwise, clear the check box before the project. The fewer projects to load, the faster the startup speed. This item must be restarted to take effect.
