How to work with DB2 data in Microsoft Access 2007

In the first installment of this series, I showed you how to configure Access 2007 to be a graphical front-end processor relative to the back-end DB2 server, detailing how to connect multiple tables and create an extraction layer based on a table. This makes it possible for information technicians to work directly with these business entities without worrying about different naming conventions, where data is stored on DB2 servers and has virtually no impact on productivity. Working with DB2 data in Access 2007

At this point, you already have several connected tables for the data in the DB2 sample library. As mentioned earlier, you can easily view the data in the All Tables view by double-clicking those tables. In the following illustration, I open the staff business entity, which connects to the staff table in the sample database:

As you can see in the previous illustration, Access 2007 can reflect the data in the corresponding table in the local Microsoft Data grid. This feature provides you with an effective way to process your data.

Hint: The term data grid refers to an object that manages a dataset in Access 2007. A dataset (data set) is a collection of data returned by a query, stored procedure, linked table, and so on. For information technicians, a data grid is used to display a dataset in Access 2007. In this article, when I mention data grid, I mean the action controls that any Access 2007 allows you to do; for example, when I refer to a dataset, I mean the data itself; For example, in the previous image, it's part of the data.
