How to Create a Compiled HTML Help File (that is, the CHM Help File) [reprinted]

Source: Internet

The HTML Help document is structured into two parts: the runner and the document content. One of its advantages is that it can help documents run across platforms. As long as there are runners and browsers on different platforms, the help documents no longer need to be re-compiled, the tool used to create HTML Help documentation is the HTML Help Workshop toolkit.
Method:
1. After HTML Help Workshop is installed, it must be restarted once before it can be run. After running, click "new" in the menu or toolbar. The select new content dialog box is displayed. Select "project" and specify the directory of the project in the Project Wizard that appears. Click OK. The project editing page is displayed. There are three tabs at the top of the Project editing interface. The first "project" is the editing of the project, the second "contents" is the directory, and the third "Index" is the index. There are 7 buttons on the left side of the Project editing interface. Their functions are as follows: "Change Project Options", "Add/delete cover Files", "Add/modify Window Options", "htmlhelp AP information", "Browse HTML source files", "save", and "save disk "and compile ".
2. Click the "Change Project Options" button to display the Project Options dialog box (1 ). Here, only the content of the title is changed and the title is written. After compilation, the title will appear in the title bar of the window. For other content, use the default value of the system. Click the Add/delete cover file button, and then select the Add button to add the HTML file as the cover page. The files on the cover page must be available. Otherwise, the system reports an error after the compiled help file is run. Now, the simple project editing is complete.
3. Click the contents tab. In this case, select the name of a new directory file and the Directory editing page appears. (2 ). Insert the title or page directory as required, and select the corresponding HTML file for each directory. The title can be divided into multiple levels, and the required HTML file is also placed on the title, as the title description content, which needs to be considered according to the content you have prepared. The contents of the Directory are shown on the left of (3) After compilation. These are three titles. You can click the directory to open the corresponding file content. After the directory is inserted, the default value is also used for the Directory attributes, so that the basic directory can be completed.
4. After the directory is compiled, an HTML Help file has taken shape. The index content is currently available. After saving the project files and directory files, you can compile them. The compilation feature is to compress all the HTML files used and package them together. In the main toolbar, you can find the compile button and the test run button. After compilation, you can run it again to see the appearance of the work.
This is the basic step for compiling HTML Help files, which is easy to use. However, the functions of the software are far from these. For example, you can design your favorite forms in the window definition, and almost all the elements of the window can be changed. It also supports full-text retrieval and is easy to create. For details, see the help document of HTML Help Workshop or the corresponding web page of Microsoft. I believe you will love it after you try it.

"CHM" format to help far

There are many tools for creating chm format. Far is an excellent tool and has a better Chinese version. Therefore, we choose to use it to create a chm format document.

1. By default, when far is started, the system will automatically perform a check on the software environment of our machine to determine the supported formats of documents to be output soon.

2. After the startup is complete, click the "add all web files found in a selected folder and its sub Folders" button at the top of the toolbar to create a file list. In the displayed dialog box, select a folder that contains the page files and image files, and click "OK" (the images and page files are best stored in the same folder). A dialog box is displayed, the total number of files and the number of HTML files in the current folder. Ask if you want to add only HTML files. If your page file does not contain images or other multimedia files, select YES. Otherwise, select No ".

The files in the selected folder should appear in the window display area. Click "save list" to save the list to the disk. It must be noted that this "add web" process supports drag-and-drop operations. We can press the "F4" function key at any time to open the resource manager and find the folder where the file to be added is located, drag the mouse to the display area of the window to complete this operation.

3. After preparing the file list, we can start to create the CHM File. Click the "HTML help express" button in the toolbar to bring up the dialog box shown in 1. Here, we only need to set the location of the target file, the file name, and the title of the Help window, select a file as the homepage. Note that the title text in the Help window is the title text we see in the final CHM file. It should reflect the topic of the entire CHM file. You must set it. Generally, the software can be set based on the name of the added folder. If you are not satisfied, you can change it as needed.

4. After setting the preceding parameters, you must precompile the file before setting the interface parameters of the document. Click the "creat help" button in Figure 1. A confirmation dialog box is displayed. If "yes" is selected, the far file list is used to create the help. If "no" is selected ", then, the system automatically searches for the HTML file in the selected directory to create the file. Next, the software automatically compiles the file and reports the compilation information in the pop-up window.

5. Click "close". Now we can take a look at our own achievements! Click View help. What if you are not satisfied with the form or content of the prepared CHM help document, such as the type of the window, the number of tools displayed in the toolbar in the window, or even the number of missing files? Careful readers may have noticed that there is an "Advanced edit" button in the lower-right corner of Figure 1. We will use the functions here to set the next work.

6. Click the "advanced editing (a)" button to bring up the "HH solution Editor" window. Click "Panel" option in the tree option on the left, 2. Here, you can freely set the width and position of the navigation and toolbar panel to set their automatic hiding and whether to disable them at the beginning according to your preferences. Next let's take a look at how to change the appearance settings of the document.

7. Click "toolbar" on the left of the window (below the "Panel ). The check boxes at the bottom left of the refresh option on the right are the number of tools displayed in the toolbar of the custom window. In addition, for example, the "Jump X (jump to X page)" and "Search" options, users can select the corresponding options and set them accordingly.

8. If you didn't plan the help document at the beginning, you can add files to the list or even merge another CHM help file. Click [files] In the options on the left of the window, and then click the "options" button in the upper-right corner. I don't need to talk about how to add files. Haha! Maybe you can make more settings.

9. How can I merge several CHM jobs? Click [Merge files] on the left, and then click the Option Button.

10. OK. The options are all set. After saving the settings, go back to the window in Figure 1 and click "create help" and recreate it.

Here we will only introduce you to the simple production process of chm format help. In fact, far also has many good functions. You can try it on your own.
