How to set the MX record of the enterprise mail server

8090 online

Brief: Correctly Setting MX (Mail exchanger) mail exchange records is the basic condition for stable operation of enterprise email services, we often find that many enterprise email administrators set invalid MX records, leading to important external email return or loss.

Let's take a look at a common example:

Yourdomain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = 221.57.37.160

Set the MX record to the corresponding IP address directly, which is not in line with the RFC standard. According to the rfc smtp protocol setting standard, the mail exchange Record MX should point to a record instead of the corresponding IP address.

In the preceding example, the Postmaster should add an a record, as shown in figure

Mail.yourdomain.com Internet address = 221.57.37.160

Then point the MX record to this a record:

Yourdomain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.yourdomain.com

Check whether the MX record of your enterprise mail server is set to a standard. But is it easy to set such a record?

The answer is no.

Although the above settings of yourdomain.com comply with RFC standards, external emails can normally arrive at the server, but they are still not recommended because they lack network and email server redundancy, once the network is disconnected or the email server is temporarily unavailable, external emails may still be returned or lost.

Let's take a look at several examples:

1. IBM

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e31.co.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e32.co.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e33.co.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e34.co.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e35.co.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e1.ny.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e2.ny.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e3.ny.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e4.ny.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e5.ny.us.ibm.com

Ibm.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = e6.ny.us.ibm.com

2. Yahoo Mail

Yahoo.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = c.mx.mail.yahoo.com

Yahoo.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = d.mx.mail.yahoo.com

Yahoo.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = e.mx.mail.yahoo.com

Yahoo.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = f.mx.mail.yahoo.com

Yahoo.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = g.mx.mail.yahoo.com

Yahoo.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = a.mx.mail.yahoo.com

Yahoo.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = B .mx.mail.yahoo.com

Email 3.126

126. com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = 126.mxmail.netease.com

126. com MX preference = 50, mail exchanger = mxbak.126.com

4. Reliable company email

Corp-email.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.biz-email.net

Corp-email.com MX preference = 30, mail exchanger = global-cdn.corpemail.net

Corp-email.com MX preference = 50, mail exchanger = Mail. corpemail. Us

The above domain name has a common feature: Multiple MX records are set, which correspond to multiple IP addresses and email servers. The email server has network and server redundancy, so as to stably accept external emails.

We recommend that enterprise mail servers require at least two MX records. Considering China's North-South Telecom interconnection, cross-Telecom and China Netcom Dual IP addresses are the best.

If your email server uses China Telecom or China Netcom dual-IP Access (or multiple email servers)

Mail1.yourdomain.com Internet address = Telecom IP Address

Mail2.yourdomain.com Internet address = Netcom IP Address

Yourdomain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail1.yourdomain.com

Yourdomain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail2.yourdomain.com

Sometimes, overseas mail is especially important for enterprises. We can consider adding an overseas mail server as a backup portal for mail. If the mail server of an overseas customer cannot connect to the domestic network, the email will be forwarded to the enterprise mail server through the Overseas Mail Server.

Refer to the settings of the above 4th samples.

Corp-email.com MX preference = 50, mail exchanger = Mail. corpemail. Us
