How to improve the stability of Wireless Networks

"Network connection is interrupted. Please log on again." I believe many users have encountered this problem. This article summarizes several tips to help you ensure the stability of your wireless network. First of all, to fundamentally solve the problem, we need to first understand which factors will interfere with the wireless signal, resulting in unstable wireless networks, only by tracing the root cause can the root cause be solved.

Unstable wireless network Factors 1: RF interference

RF interference will occupy the wireless transmission media such as air, delay the time when users send and receive data, and cause conflicts, resulting in data re-transmission. If the noise intensity is high and the retry rate is high, it is generally caused by RF interference that is affecting your wireless network. This interference source may be a microwave oven or wireless phone, and there may be other wireless networks nearby.

If this problem occurs only when the microwave oven or wireless phone is running, try to place the AP access point on different channels. If someone else uses the same channel to cause interference, you need to change the channel to avoid conflicts. That is to say, if your home uses the same wireless signal frequency band as its home wireless signal transmission frequency band, to some extent, the two wireless networks will be affected. Therefore, changing a signal transmission frequency band through a wireless router is a good method when the network is unstable.

Note that only three channels (1, 6, and 11) in the GHz bandwidth do not conflict with each other.

Unstable wireless network factor 2: high utilization

When there are too many active wireless network users, or when users are operating applications that consume too much bandwidth (such as downloading large files ), applications on the network may reach the maximum capacity of the Access Point. In this case, the retry rate may be relatively higher (more than 10%), even if the signal strength is high and the noise intensity is very low, it will affect the network performance (that is, the signal-to-noise ratio is very high ). The result is that extra time is spent to re-transmit the data frame, resulting in reduced throughput.

Unstable wireless network Factor 3: blind spots in coverage

After the wireless network is installed, some changes may occur in the adjustment of RF signal transmission facilities. For example, a company may need to build a wall, which can greatly weaken the signal. Worse, the RF location may not be investigated before the network is installed. These situations will lead to limited or even no RF signals in some areas of the Facility, which will greatly reduce performance and interrupt the operation of wireless applications.

Unstable wireless network factor 4: Device Problems

The wireless network signal is unstable, and the devices cannot be removed. Therefore, we will analyze the signal from the perspective of wireless network devices to help you find out the culprit of the unstable wireless network signal:

(1) wireless device location:

Generally, the wireless router should be placed in the middle of the room, regardless of the signal coverage or transmission speed. In addition, there are many wall corners in our room, each corner will affect the transmission of wireless signals, so we should try to avoid the corner when designing wireless networks and equipment placement.

(2) stability of the wireless router itself:

When the wireless network signal is unstable and there is no problem with the placement of the wireless router, we must first consider the problem of the wireless router itself.

In this case, we can take the notebook close to the wireless router, or take the wireless router near the PC with a wireless Nic to reduce the distance to view the stability of the wireless signal. If the connection speed and signal strength are still unsatisfactory, you need to check the stability from the wireless router. The most common method is to download the latest patch package or firmware driver on the official homepage of wireless product manufacturers.

The upgrade method is particularly effective when the wireless router signal is unstable or the wireless network card is automatically dropped every few minutes.

(3) wireless network adapter stability:

Blanket search is often the most recognizable. Although it looks stupid, the wireless nic at the receiving end becomes a key suspect after the wireless router is checked. From the perspective of wireless network adapter, the problem generally occurs because of the following two points:

First, it is the driver problem of the wireless network card itself. Be sure to install the wireless network card with the drive on the disk, whether the driver is correct or not and whether the driver is an official version is the main factor that determines the stability of the wireless network.

The second is the connection speed of the wireless network adapter. It is well known that in a wired network, when two computers transmit data, if the network adapter of a computer is set to a ticket or the transmission speed is 10 M, the NIC of another computer is duplex or the transmission speed is 100 mb. In this case, the two NICs frequently negotiate the connection speed and working mode, and cannot be transmitted normally or frequently disconnected. The same is true for wireless network adapters. Therefore, we recommend that you select a product when selecting a wireless router and a wireless network adapter.

(4) reject DHCP packets:

Experienced users know that the DHCP service can help us automatically allocate IP addresses of computers on the network. However, in actual use, DHCP can cause network instability, for example, if the IP address is obtained again after the lease, other computers in the network are using the IP address, or DHCP information is frequently negotiated between the computer and the wireless router.

In fact, these DHCP packets are completely unnecessary. For home users, there are not many computers in the network. We can completely reduce DHCP packets by manually setting network parameters such as IP addresses.
