Do you often feel at work that it is late even if you haven't done anything in the afternoon?

If you are the same as the many professionals we interviewed in a recent study of daily work at Harvard Business School, this should happen frequently to you.

This inefficiency not only reduces the project success rate of your team and organization, but also threatens yourself.

We found that nothing is more exciting and energetic than making meaningful progress on things of our own interest. We call this the principle of progress. However, there is another principle of progress: nothing is more frustrating than job stagnation, and this negative effect is much greater than the positive one.

The most common cause of inefficiency is Time Division-attempts to balance conflicting and often unexpected time requirements. This is the case when you are crazy about your daily work, but still feel inefficient. Sounds familiar, right?

Working hours management experts Tony Schwartz, David Allen and others have some useful skills to help you build work habits that get twice the result with half the effort. So if you have no time to complete the most important work, how can you remedy it?

1. specify a time gap. (20 minutes) If possible, move the remaining work of the day from the calendar to ensure that you are not disturbed for 20 minutes, so as to concentrate on that meaningful work. If you can do this, you can set aside more time, but 20 minutes is enough to make your work more efficient.

If this is not the case, we recommend that you wait 20 minutes or 20 minutes for the unimportant meeting. (If you have an emergency call, you will also use this strategy, will you? It is an urgent task to do the most important work .) Cut off the email and turn off the phone. No one can find your empty meeting room or small room.

2. Mark the progress of the day. (2 minutes) Use your work diary to record the progress of your day.

It is natural to concentrate on the work you have not done and the rest. But to improve your happiness and effort, you should spend one minute recording what you have done. Even if you just outline the next steps of a creative project, record them. If you can leave a 20-minute gap, write down your achievements of the day, no matter how small it is. This may not be a scheduled task or a solution to other people's problems, but if you do a useful job and make real progress, record it.

Let yourself have a sense of accomplishment and realize that you have made a difference.

3. Prepare for the future work. (3 minutes) Tips for using Ernest Hemingway and other writers: Stop when half done. When you have to stop the most important work and stop halfway, you just need to know how to complete the rest of the work. In this way, you can quickly enter the working state the next day, even if you only get 20 minutes of blank space the next day.
