Article Title: VirtualBox installation and configuration in Ubuntu7.10. Linux is a technology channel of the IT lab in China. Includes basic categories such as desktop applications, Linux system management, kernel research, embedded systems, and open source.
I. Installation
1. The VirtualBox version 1.5.0 in the stand-alone software manager of Ubuntu7.10 seems to be unable to enable the USB function after the installation. We do not recommend using this version for installation. Download the installation package. We recommend that you download the latest Deb package for installation. The following describes how to enable the USB function of VirtualBox.
2. Prepare dependencies. For normal use of VirtualBox, libxalan110 and libxerces27 are required. To install them first, run the following command:
Sudo apt-get install libxalan110 libxerces27
3. Install the compilation tool and related packages. During the installation process, compile the kernel module used by VirtualBox. To do this, you need to prepare basic compilation tools and packages. You can use the following commands to install them:
Sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-'uname-R'
4. Now, go to the directory where the VirtualBox installation package is saved and install it using the following command:
Sudo dpkg-I virtualbox_1.5.4-27034_Ubuntu_gutsy_i386
During installation, VirtualBox requires that the license agreement be accepted. In addition, the installer creates a vboxusers user group and compiles the required kernel modules.
5. Currently, VirtualBox cannot be started because the current user does not belong to the vboxusers user group. You can use the following command to add the current user (replace "youruser" in the command with the current user) to the vboxusers user group:
Sudo adduser youruser vboxusers
Virtualbox screen moving down:
If the resolution of the virtual machine is close to the resolution of x, and some interfaces are on the edge of x, the title of the original window manager changes to a black bar area after the full screen, and the screen moves down, the windows Start Menu is displayed on the next desktop. Solution: reduce the resolution before full screen, right-click the screen and adjust the resolution of the display to the same as that of x, so that no screen offset exists.
System installation failure:
After the virtual machine is installed, the system must be installed. For Windows 2 K and Windows XP systems (only these two systems are installed), a black screen is displayed before the disk partition is selected. Check whether the "I/O APIC" function is enabled. The default value is "forbidden", but the function description is: after Windows is installed, we recommend that you enable it. Someone may enable it before installation according to this instructions. I feel that (after five system installations), if you do not need the serial port function of VirtualBox, or the HOST is not a multi-core, multi-CPU server, it is not a problem to enable APIC. Sometimes, if you find that the virtual system is "paused", we recommend that you disable the APIC function.
Linux cannot be installed. If a kernel error occurs during installation and the installation fails, we recommend that you enable the APIC installation or disable the APIC function, and enter: linux apic = off noapic
Ii. Enable the VirtualBox USB access function
The solution is as follows:
1. added the user group usbfs.
Sudo groupadd usbfs
2. view the gid of the usb fs User Group
Cat/etc/group | grep usbfs
Usb fs: x: 1002:
3. Add the current user to the usb fs group
Sudo gedit/etc/group
Set
Usb fs: x: 1002:
Change
Usbfs: x: 1002: joson (Change joson to your username)
4. Reset the permission for the USB device to edit the/etc/fstab file and add the following two lines. Note that your gid may not be 1002
Sudo gedit/etc/fstab
Add
#1002 is the USB group IDI
None/proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid = 1002, devmode = 664 0 0
5. After restarting, you should be able to use the USB device in the client.
Usage:
After a USB device is inserted, such as a USB flash drive, right-click the USB icon at the bottom right of the VM and select the recognized USB flash drive.
Note: (1) detach the USB device from the host before using it in the client. (2) restart the system.
