Now, Windows Vista introduces a new tool to manage Windows server running. As long as you follow the steps below, you can manage all the new functions of Windows server at will.
Some things in life always follow the rules. Microsoft will continue to make decisions that disappoint all of us or provide solutions that shake everyone's head. If you run Windows Vista, you will shake your head and sigh. In many cases, you may feel frustrated because there is always no proper tool to manage Windows Server2003 or Windows Server2008 networks and Active Directory environments. But now, with the latest remote server management tool (RSAT), users will no longer be disappointed. This article introduces the features and installation steps of remote server management tools, as well as some Tools Applicable to Windows Vista.
Why do we need RSAT?
If you are using Windows Vista as your "Desktop Management", you need to install and run the RSAT tool to manage Active Directory, network services, Group policies, and so on. This is because Windows Vista does not have a similar management tool to manage various operations.
However, this cannot be completely said. Microsoft decided to include the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) in the Windows Vista operating system. If this is the case, you may wonder why there is no GPMC shadow in Windows Vista SP1 ?! This is because GPMC has been removed when you install Windows Vista SP1. This was decided by the Group Policy Group to enable all Vista computers to install the brand new GPMC-attached to the RSAT tool installation package.
The following tools are also included when RSAT is installed:
Active Directory domain service (ad ds) Tool
Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (ad lds) Tool
Active Directory certificate verification tool
DHCP server tools
DNS server tools
Terminal Service Tools
Common description, discovery, and integration (UDDI) Service Tools
Group Policy Management Tools
Network Load Balancing Tool
As you can see, if you want to manage a windows system, you 'd better install RSAT in windows vista.
How to obtain and install RSAT
First, you need to obtain RSAT. I emphasize this step, not because it is difficult to obtain, but because you must clearly know that you want to obtain it. You can download RSAT from the download center of Microsoft website.
Note:
There are two installation versions in the Microsoft download center: 32-bit and 64-bit. Therefore, before downloading, you need to find out the version of vista you are running and download the correct RSAT installation version.
After downloading RSAT, first confirm that you have installed Windows Vista SP1. you can click here to download and install SP1.
RSAT installation takes some time, so make sure you have enough time to complete the installation. Figure 1 shows what you will see when installing the RSAT tool (not very interesting ).

If you are running windows XP, you will not be able to install RSAT on your operating system. RSAT is designed for Vista, because only vista can take full advantage of the advantages and functions of this tool. If you want to manage your XP system, we recommend that you install the Admin Pack and download it from here.
It should be noted that RSAT can be installed in the following Vista versions (SP1 is installed ):
Windows Vista Business Edition
Windows Vista Enterprise Edition
Windows Vista flagship Edition
Windows Vista commercial edition 64-bit
Windows Vista Enterprise Edition 64-bit
Windows Vista flagship edition 64-bit
Familiar with RSAT tools
After the RSAT tool is installed, you need to get familiar with the usage of these tools, because when you try to hide these tools, it is easy to cause damage to the tools, therefore, Microsoft hides some of these tools by default. Follow these steps to access and use all RSAT tools:
First open the control panel, click program options, and then in the program and function area, click open/close windows function, as shown in 2:
