How to install Cadence Linux

Currently, the common Cadence IC versions are IC5.0, IC5033, and IC5141. Basically, the only problem limiting installation and running is the thread support capability of the Linux release version.

Linux has two thread mechanisms: Linuxthreads and NPTL. In the early stage, Linuxthreads coexist. Now, only NPTL is used. Most large software, such as IC5.0, IC5.033, IC5141, LDV5.1, Oriacle 9i, and other large-scale design software, adopts a very conservative solution, using the early linuxthreads mechanism.

The thread-related version is the glibc version of the Linux dynamic link library. No matter what linux version is released, as long as glibc is in 2.2x ~ The Linuxthreads thread mechanism is retained for 2.3x, and all of them can install and run the above-mentioned EDA software. However, when glibc reaches 2.4 or above, the linuxthreads thread mechanism is canceled due to glibc2.4 or later versions, all use the NPTL mechanism. Therefore, most conservative software, such as IC5.0, IC5.033, IC5141, LDV5.1, and Oriacle 9i, cannot be run using the linuxthreads thread mechanism, in addition, many software releases using glibc2.4 + Linux use this dynamic link library for re-compilation, therefore, glibc cannot be downgraded to install the EDA tool (unless the level of proficiency in Linux has reached the level that a completely customized Linux release version under glibc2.4-can be compiled using the Linux source code !)

Note that many Linux releases that contain two thread mechanisms can set the system variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to 2.4.1 When the default thread mechanism is NPTL rather than linuxthreads.

There are two other situations during installation: one is that the decompression file cannot be found, so you can download an ncompress version for use (for example, RedHat does not have this tool, but Suse has this tool, we will not consider copyright issues.) or, according to other documents, it is also feasible to modify the io_fltr.c and process_file.c files and use other decompression tools; in another case, tar and sort are required for installation. Cadence cannot be installed for tar and sort files compiled using the NTPL mechanism. Therefore, you may wish to install the old version (such as RH7.2) the tar and sort files of replace the corresponding files of the current version. A lazy friend simply copies an executable folder installed on a lower version to the current Linux version. After the environment variables are configured, the folder can run smoothly.

Now I have mentioned the actual release version: RedHat7.x, RedHat8., RHEL AS1.x, RHEL AS2.x, FC1, and FC2 can be directly used; redHat9.x, RHEL3.x, RHEL4.x, FC3, FC4, SUSE8.x, SUSE9.x, SUSE10.0) and so on. FC5 and FC6 use glibc2.5x, glibc2.6x, and Mandrake10 use glibc2.4. Therefore, IC5.xx cannot be installed. View the release version of glibc (in example 2.3.5) in RPMs of the release CD, with rpm files starting with glibc (such as glibc-devel-2.3.5-34.i386.rpm ), you can determine whether the EDA tool can be installed in this Linux version.

Note: The latest Cadence IC610 uses the NTPL mechanism, so it supports all the latest Linux releases. However, the database is changed from the ODBA mode to the OA mode. On the one hand, the previous data format must be converted before it can be used (IC610 provides a conversion tool), and on the other hand, the License method is also different from IC5.x.
