First, AHCI Introduction:

AHCI, called Serial ATA Advanced Host Controller Interface (serial ATA Advanced Master Interface), is an interface standard developed by several companies under Intel's guidance, and its research team consists mainly of Intel, AMD, Dell, Marvell, Michael Billiton, Microsoft, Red Hat, Seagate and Storagegear and other famous enterprises. AHCI describes a PCI class device that plays the role of an interface between system memory and serial ATA devices, and is common to different operating systems and hardware.

In the AHCI 1.0 specification, Intel introduces the NCQ (Native Command Queue) feature and hot-swappable technology. The hard disk supporting the NCQ technology will reorder the access address according to the instruction, reduce the reading time, make the data transmission more efficient, and prolong the service life of the hard disk effectively.

AHCI technology requires both hard disk and motherboard support. For the hard drive, the AHCI 1.0 product is not fully supported, but some of the hard drives already support the NCQ feature and can be implemented with a motherboard that supports AHCI.

Motherboard, in the Lenovo part of the BIOS, you can see the SATA mode and AHCI functionality options, when the SATA mode is set to enhanced, AHCI can choose enable or disable, when the SATA mode is set to compatible, The AHCI option is not visible (default disable). To sum up, there are 3 possible combinations of these two settings, and only this combination shown in the following illustration supports AHCI:
