How to install the 'california 'calendar application on Ubuntu 14.04
When not-for-profit software provider Yorba claims it began developing a desktop calendar application named 'california 'last month, we were excited-we said in our headlines, "it's time !"
Yorba supports the e-mail client 'geary' that focuses on user experience and the gorgeous photo management software 'shotwel'. Therefore, we naturally have a reason to expect them to enter mainstream software for productivity on linux systems.
Although California is not yet stable enough to be released to the official release version, it can now be installed to the Ubuntu system through the daily-developed PPA of the company.
Progress made so far
"Neeeeeyaaaaaaaawwnnn!"-It was a warning that the plane was about to land at San Francisco International Airport.
Yes, California is under active development. This software is not yet complete and is not stable enough for everyone to use every day. But if you are willing to fix some bugs, you can install this application on ubuntu 14.04.
Whether or not to do so depends on your thoughts.
The current build (for example, when writing this article) provides local management and basic support for Google Calendar and web calendar (. ICS. Events can be displayed even in the GNOME Desktop date/time applet.
Natural Language Input
When you opened the California software for the first time, the outline of the current month was displayed in front of you. At present, there were no methods to view the agenda by week, year, or at least I did not find it. You can use the navigation button to change the month.
You can click the calendar icon in the toolbar to create a new calendar (For example, 'work' and 'pet care') And open/close it. When all calendars are displayed in the main window, each calendar is visually distinguished by different colors.
To create a new event, click the '+' icon and enter the description of the event you want to submit in natural language in the displayed input box ). For example,Bake Sansa Stark A Lemon Cake on Wednesday 2.45 PM"The event will be added at on Wednesday.

I hope this function can be improved. Now, although it can accurately locate dates, it does not support the creation of repetitive events (e.g., via"Skype chat with Sam every Tuesday at 7 AM") Cannot recognize locations or characters (e.g.,"Coffee with Penelope on Monday 12 PM at Boston Tea Party").
To modify the entries correctly, double-click them in the grid view to complete and edit the entries. This opens a window containing additional fields, time selection, date format, and so on.
Incomplete
If there are some defects, it is the appearance (In this stage, the bugs and the missing functions can be ignored ). Although it looks great under the Adwaita topic, it looks bad under the Ubuntu default topic.
This is not a Yorba (or GNOME) error, but the Ubuntu development team still does not add support for GNOME's new GTK title bar in Compiz, and is still using Unity to render the window.
California is fully available on the ubuntu system. This problem occurs only after the release upgrade. This problem does not affect Ubuntu GNOME or Linux Mint.
