Install the Telnet Client
Application to: Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista
By default, the Telnet client is not installed on Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. The installation process varies depending on the operating system used:
Use the command line to install the Telnet Client
On Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista, you can use the following command line to install the Telnet client.
Steps:
Open the Command Prompt window. Click Start, Type cmd in the Start search box, and then press Enter.
Type the following command:
Pkgmgr/iu: "TelnetClient"
If the "User Account Control" dialog box appears, confirm that the operation you want to perform is displayed, and click "continue ".
The installation is complete when the command prompt appears again.
Install the Telnet client on Windows Server 2008
On Windows Server 2008, you can use the role management tool to install optional components.
Steps:
Start Server Manager. Click Start, right-click computer, and then click manage ".
If the "User Account Control" dialog box appears, confirm that the operation you want to perform is displayed, and click "continue ".
In the feature Summary section, click Add feature ".
In the Add feature wizard, select "Telnet client" and click "Next ".
On the confirm installation and selection page, click Install ".
After the installation is complete, on the "installation result" page, click "close ".
Install the Telnet client on Windows Vista
On Windows Vista, you can use Windows function tools to install optional components.
Steps:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel ".
On the Control Panel homepage, click programs ".
In the programs and functions section, click "enable or disable Windows functions ".
If the "User Account Control" dialog box appears, confirm that the operation you want to perform is displayed, and click "continue ".
In the "Windows functions" list, select "Telnet client" and click "OK ".
