How to install Win8 on a USB flash drive (seven steps are required without using command line partitioning or image extraction)

I. Reasons

 

Win8 has been released over the past few days. I also want to try Win8. I can use a laptop with limited hard disk capacity. WINXP/7 dual systems and a large number of development tools have been installed in it. It is not suitable for brand-new installation or upgrade installation. So I want to install Win8 in a USB flash drive.

So I searched the internet and found that the windows to go function can meet my requirements. However, it is strange that online articles are very complicated and require command line partitioning and image extraction and other operations --

I thought about it. In fact, the steps are not as complex as they are. For example --

1. You do not need to use command line partitioning. Formatting is available in windows. You can use third-party tools such as diskgenius to set active partitions.

2. You do not need to extract the image. You can use the virtual optical drive software to map the image to the drive, and then specify the path when you press the command line.

 

So I did it again based on my own ideas. As a result, I successfully posted my post and shared my experiences.

 

 

2. Preparations

 

Hardware preparation --

1. A 32 GB or larger USB flash drive. For example, I am "Weigang s102 usb3.0 Pro (32 GB )".

 

Software preparation --

1. The current operating system is windows. For example, I am a Windows 7 32-bit edition.

2. Install the image in Win8. For example, I chose "64-bit Windows 8: Simplified Chinese Enterprise Edition (90-day free trial version or enterprise evaluation version) in http://bbs.pcbeta.com/viewthread-1085902-1-1.html )". The current operating system version is irrelevant to the Win8 version that will be installed on the USB flash drive.

4. diskgenius, a useful disk tool. The official website is "http://www.diskgenius.cn/#, I use a free edition of 32.

5. The virtual optical drive software "daemon tools Lite ". Can be downloaded at huajun (http://www.onlinedown.net/soft/38196.htm) and other websites.

 

 

3. Install Win8 on a USB flash drive

 

　　Step 1: format the USB flash drive in NTFS format.Insert the USB flash drive, find the USB flash drive letter in the resource manager, right-click the shortcut menu, and select "format ". Select the file system as "NTFS" and click "START" to format it.

　　Step 2: Set the USB flash drive as an active partition.Start diskgenius, find the drive letter of the USB flash drive, right-click the shortcut menu, select "Activate current partition", click "Save changes" on the toolbar, and click "OK.

　　Step 3: load the Win8 installation image to the virtual Optical Drive.Click the "daemon tools Lite" icon on the task tray, select a drive (I chose h) in the pop-up menu, and then select the Win8 image file.

　　Step 4: run the "command prompt" as the administrator ".Click Start> All Programs> attachments, find the command prompt, right-click the shortcut menu, select Run as administrator, and click OK.

　　Step 5: Enter the imagex directory in the "command prompt.Imagex is decompressed to the "E: \ tddownload \ imagex_6.2.9200.16384" directory. Enter the command "CD/d e: \ tddownload \ imagex_6.2.9200.16384" in the "command prompt ".

　　Step 6: Execute imagex.My U disk is an I disk, and the virtual drive will mirror the win8installation image to the H disk. When the operating system is 32, the optional “imagex_86.exe ".
