Installing an operating system on a PC is not complicated, and even Ubuntu is as simple as other Linux systems. In most cases, you can click "Next" in the dialog box and follow the process. When you want to retain the original operating system on the PC (not specifically Windows), you still need to perform a little more operations, but it is very simple.

It is easy to burn an ISO image in Linux. Several programs can provide this function. In Windows, you can burn Ubuntu to a DVD or make it into a USB boot disk (which is better ). To copy Ubuntu to a USB device correctly, you need to download a tool named Win32 Disk Imager 0.9.5. It has a simple interface and is completely automatic.

Before restarting the machine to install Ubuntu, you need to provide some available disk space for Ubuntu, and it is not enough to provide a disk partition for Ubuntu. You will need two, one for Ubuntu itself (about 10 GB, if you don't want to install too many applications, it will be enough ), the second is swap partition (similar to Windows page files), which is generally twice the size of your memory. You don't need to format them as long as they are available. If you install Ubuntu on the second idle hard disk, it will be easier.

Plug in the USB boot disk and restart it. You will receive a prompt asking if it is "trial" or "installation ". Select "Install" and select the installation method: Install Ubuntu and Windows 8 (or any other version you have), replace Windows 8 with Ubuntu, or select another option.

You can select "Install together with Windows 8", but you may not like the automatic processing method of the installer. You can also select "Other (Something Else)" to manually control the installation process.

Find the free partition you have reserved for Ubuntu (the installer cannot read and display the Windows volume name, so be careful not to choose the wrong one), double-click it, and select ext4 file system, and "/" as the default installation point.

Select another smaller partition and select the swap partition type. That's all. When you click Next, the installer will start and you will enter the user name, password, and other information.

After you start you, you will get a simple list, you can select the operating system you want to start.
