Friends who have used VMware vsphere, believe that OVF (Open virtualization Format) will not be unfamiliar, OVF is currently through DMTF (distributed Management Task Force) approved virtual machine file standards. With OVF, you can import and export virtual machines to and from each of the virtualization platforms (VMware's products and Third-party virtualization platforms).
Before writing this article, I usually use the vsphere built-in export tool to export the virtual machine to OVF format, and then use the Deploy OVF feature on the new server for OVF import, after doing a virtual machine template for later use in another server or customer environment. (for example, install a Windows 2003 template, I can not always do at the customer site temporarily installed it)
OVF tool, a virtual import export tool supported by VMware, is currently running only at the command prompt and supports the following VMware virtualization software:
OVF version 1.1, and is backward compatible with OVF 1.0 and OVF, which was 0.9 by
VirtualCenter 2.5, and VMware ESX? 3.5.
Vsphere? 4.0 and later
Vcloud Director 1.5
Vcloud Director 1.0 (source from OVF or OVA-only)
VirtualCenter 2.5 and later
ESX 3.5 and later
VMware Server 2.0 and later
VMware Workstation 6.0 and later
VMware Fusion 3.0 and later
Vapprun 1.0
The author uses the Mac computer to install a Windows 2008 R2 operating system via VMware Fusion (VMware's virtual machine software on Mac), hoping to convert it offline to OVF format and then import it into Vsphere 5.0.
