How to partition a hard disk during Windows XP installation

During the installation of the Windows 2000/xp/2003 operating system, we can partition and format the hard disk according to the prompts of the installation wizard. Here we take a 20GB hard drive as an example of how to divide it into two partition operations during the installation of Windows XP.

Start the computer, press Del to enter the BIOS setup program, and in the Advanced BIOS Features (Advanced BIOS feature), set the first boot Device (first boot device) option to "CD-ROM" and change the primary boot disk to "optical drive". After you save the BIOS settings, restart your computer.

Put the Windows XP installation CD into the CD drive. After the system starts from the optical drive, the installer automatically detects the hardware configuration of the computer, extracts the necessary installation files from the installation CD, and then appears to welcome the installer interface. Press ENTER to continue, the Windows License Agreement appears, press the F8 key to accept the agreement. The interface to display the hard disk partition information appears.

In this example, only one hard disk is configured on the current computer, and all the space on the hard disk is a partition, that is, system partition C. If your hard disk has never been partitioned, you can skip the step of removing the hard disk and create the new partition directly.

Move the cursor to the partition you want to delete, press D to remove the partition according to the system prompts, and if you are sure you want to delete this section, press ENTER, and if you want to discard the deletion, press ESC to cancel. Press ENTER to confirm, then go to the next interface, if you are sure you want to delete the partition, press L key to confirm; If you want to discard the deletion, press ESC to return to the previous interface.

After the partition is successfully deleted, the system will automatically return to the partition list interface. In this case, the hard disk partition has all been removed, so only one "unpartitioned space" appears in the partition list.

Let's create the first partition below. Move the cursor to the unpartitioned space, press C to create a new partition, enter the size of the partition you want to create at the cursor, and then press ENTER to confirm that the partition is created successfully. Move the cursor to the unpartitioned space, and repeat the steps that you just created to divide the partitions that follow.

Depending on the system prompts, move the cursor over the partition where you want to install the operating system, and press ENTER to confirm that the option to format the partition appears.

Please select the appropriate options according to your needs to format the partition, move the cursor to the desired option, press ENTER to confirm the system will enter the disk format interface. After the partition has been formatted, the system will automatically enter subsequent installation steps.
