First, we need to understand how some hard disks partition related concepts. Please read the following nouns to explain:
Physical Disk: The real hard disk we call "Physical Disk", English is called "PhysicalDisk". Logical Disk: "C: Disk", "D: Disk" After partitioning, ..., Pan is called "Logical Disk". A "Physical disk" can be divided into a "logical disk", or you can split a block of "logical Disk", you can adjust according to your needs.
Primary partition: The primary partition is "Primarypartition", which is one of the "logical disks" you can build on a physical disk. For example, if you want your physical disk to be programmed to have only one "C: Disk," The entire disk space is allocated to the primary partition. Extended partition: Extended partition in English named "Extendedpartition", if you want to divide your hard disk into "C:", "D:" Two, you can create a primary partition with a portion of the space on your hard disk (the primary partition becomes a C: disk), and the remaining space is an extended partition. However, the extended partition is not a "useful" unit, and you have to set up a logical disk in the extended partition so that the operating system can access its contents. For example, if you allocate all the space for an extended partition to a logical disk, the logical disk created from the extended partition becomes the D: disk.
Here, you must note that the extended partition is not necessarily allocated a logical disk, you can also divide the extended partition several, into several logical disks. If you assign an extended partition to a logical disk, the logical disk becomes D:. If you divide the extended partitions into several, they will become d:, E:, F: ..... In particular, note the relationship between the extended partition and its logical disk: C: Logical disks other than (D:, E:, F: ...). is included in the extended partition, beginners often misunderstand.
Before you can work on a hard disk partition, you must have a boot disk. If you have a bootable CD, you only need to set the BIOS to start the disc, if you start with a floppy disk, just make a boot disk and set the BIOS to a: start. Since your Win98 has not been able to boot properly (assuming), please put the boot disk into a: floppy drive, or put the CD in the CD-ROM drive, then the boot on it!
Revolutionary work officially started
1 adjust BIOS to boot with floppy disk
Some friends of the computer, in order to reduce the short boot time, may be set to "only C: Disk boot." However, when you want to reload the Win98, because the C: disk may not be able to boot, you have to adjust the BIOS about the boot option. Please press DEL or the corresponding key on the power-on, enter the BIOS setup, then adjust the boot disk order option to "A:,c:", or the CD-ROM boot into "cdromc:a:". (for example, let's start with a: drive.) )
2 Restart the computer
After the BIOS is adjusted and the settings are saved, the BIOS restarts the computer immediately, make sure the boot floppy is in a: drive (preferably the WIN98 boot disk). When prompted, you can see a familiar picture of the screen, which is the old DOS command line prompt.
3 Performing Fdisk
Please type "FDISK" after the hint symbol and press ENTER to perform the hard disk partitioning tool. The so-called Fdisk, is from the DOS era of the hard disk partition tool program, its full name is Fixeddisksetupprogram. The so-called "Fixeddisk", is the hard disk of the Old English said. Although the general term of the hard disk is already "harddisk", but this program has been retained the original, no changes.
4 into Fdisk
After you perform FDISK, the program asks you "Doyouwishtoenablelargedisksupport (y/n)." If you're trying to delete a partition, don't worry about it, wait until the partition is set up. Please press Y to continue with Fdisk.
5 View your hard drive partition status
At this point, there are 4 options on the screen, please pay special attention to this is the main menu of Fdisk. If you press ESC, you can end the execution of Fdisk. Before you delete partitions, you can take advantage of the view feature to understand the status of the hard disk partitions in advance. Type the number key 4 on your keyboard and select the 4th feature: "Displayinformation", which is to view the partitions of an existing hard disk. You can see for yourself whether your hard disk has only one primary partition, or an extended partition in addition to the primary partition, and you can continue to view the state of the logical disk under the view. To return to the main selection menu, press ESC.
6 Removing logical disks
If you want to reinstall the WIN98 and plan how hard disk space will be used, you need to remove the original hard disk partition. That is, you have to remove all of your previous hard disk partitions. If you have the state of the hard disk partition with bamboo, will help the division work. You don't think it's easy to delete a hard disk partition, which is not the case, but you have to remove the hard disk partition in reverse order by establishing the hard disk partition. So you need to know the order in which your hard disk partitions are built. The order in which the hard disk partitions are established: Establish the primary partition (C:) → establish an extended partition → set up logical disks on the extended partition (D:, E:, F: ...). )。 So, the order to delete the hard disk partitions is to delete the logical disks of the extended partition (D:, E:, F: 、...... → Remove the extended partition → Delete the primary partition (C:). First, if your hard disk has an extended partition, select the "deletepartitionorlogicaldosdrive" feature, and then select "Deletelogicaldosdrire (s) Intheextendeddospartition "this project. If you do not have any logical disks, you will see "nologicaldosdrive (s) todelete." 's message. If you have defined logical disks on your extended partition, such as:, D:, E: ..., please enter their logical code and the disk's volume label name (Volumelabel), delete them one by one, why is the procedure so complicated? This is because when you delete a logical disk, all of the data on it disappears. Therefore, the FDISK program must determine what you are doing, and then the action to delete the logical disk will occur. Otherwise, anyone can perform the Fdisk mess, which will not destroy your hard drive. If you enter the wrong disk volume label name, Fdisk does not let you do the work of deleting the logical disk.
7 Removing extended partitions
When you have finished deleting D:, E: 、...... After these logical disks, you have to go back to the main menu and delete the extended partition. Select "3.DeletepartitionorLogicalDOSDrive" again, and then select "1.DeleteprimaryDOSPartition". When selected, Fdisk asks which primary partition you want to delete? Because there is only one primary partition, the preset is "1". Once pressed, you also enter the disk volume label and answer Yes, and FDISK will let you delete the primary partition. After you delete the primary partition, all the hard disk partitions have disappeared and the entire hard drive is "clean". Please end the execution of Fdisk and reboot. Please note: Every time you change the partition status of the hard disk, be sure to restart the boot disk, or there will be unpredictable situation occurs. Hard disk partitions must be built after damage, not just light damage. Now follow the instructions below to help the hard drive to re-establish the partition. But it's easier to build than destroy!
Start Rebuilding homes
1 performing Fdisk
After you remove the partition and reboot, you should now be under the "A:" Prompt symbol. Please type "FDISK" and press ENTER to perform the hard disk partitioning tool.
2 Choose whether to start support for "FAT32"
If you use WIN98/WIN95OSR2 to make the boot disk, after you perform FDISK, the program asks you "Doyouwishtoenablelargedisksupport (y\n)" ...? N ". What should we do then? What is "Largedisksupport"? In early dos and Win95, the planning of a single logical disk was limited by 2GB (earlier DOS had 32MB restrictions). In other words, no matter how you partition, a logical disk capacity can only be 2GB. If there are 2 logical disks, a total of 3 logical disks (1 primary partitions, one extended partition contains 2 logical disks, and a total of 3 logical disks). That's why some branded computers sell on your computer with just one "real hard drive", and you see several "C:, D:, E: ..." on the computer. Later, Microsoft felt that "several logical disks" were so inappropriate that it improved the format of the hard disk partition in WIN98/WIN95OSR2. You may have heard of the so-called "FAT32", WIN98/WIN95OSR2 joined the FAT32 support, and finally can have a capacity of more than 2GB hard disk is not required to split to more than 2 logical disks, and only one primary partition can be. All in all, if you have WIN98/WIN95OSR2, suggest choosing FAT32 support for "Doyouwishtoenablelargedisksupport (y/n)?" This problem, you may choose "Yes". That is, if you choose to turn on larger disk support, more than 2GB of hard drives can also be allocated to the primary partition (Primarypartition). If your Win95 is an older version, it's a shame you can skip this step and keep looking down.
3 Establish the hard drive primary partition
At this point in the Fdisk main menu. Select "1.CreateDOSpartitionorLogicalDOSDrive" and then "1.CreatePrimaryDOSpartition" to establish the primary partition of the hard disk. However, how to plan the hard disk capacity is good? It depends on your own preferences. Here I will only describe the hard disk partition in only one primary partition, if you want to establish an extended partition, you only need to remove the partition step in the reverse order, you can complete the hard disk expansion of the partition.
What do you think? Here you should have a detailed understanding of the partition of the hard disk! Next I will introduce some of the non-public parameters of Fdisk, as a reference, the use of the method is after the Fdisk plus on it. Hopefully you can take advantage of them to manage your hard drive better.
