How to recover files from a broken SD card

SD card is very fragile performance is very unstable, accidentally broken off. SD card can greatly improve the cell phone or camera storage capacity, and greatly enhance the use. But if the SD card strike is broken, you will lose a lot of data. This article describes several methods that can help you try to recover files from broken SD cards, retrieve photos and other data.

Find a card reader

General SD Damage when the system always prompts us to format, if you want to keep any of the above photos, do not format the disk. After you have tried any file on the recovery card, it is not too late to format the write-protected SD card. If you have an SD card plugged into your laptop or PC's built-in slot, you may be able to switch to a computer or USB card reader to try it. Sometimes the problem is on the card reader, not on the carbon. The USB SD card reader can be purchased on the Internet for microSD card and SD standard, and will not cost much.

File Recovery Software

There are many free software claims that can recover data from damaged or corrupted memory cards. Some free recovery software is very limited in terms of the number of files or data they can recover, so you should see any restrictions before downloading. You can use disk digger to recover accidentally deleted files, which is also true for SD cards that do not see content in Windows Explorer (Figure 1). If you don't like Disk digger, try many other file recovery applications, including EaseUS free Data Recovery (Figure 2). When you use this type of software, there is no guarantee that you can retrieve the files intact, they usually lose the original file name, which may be a problem for some users who have the required file name. Other software can easily rename recovered files.

One of the more famous freeware recovery software is ZAR (Figure 3), where most of the software works in much the same way, with ZAR as an example to give you a general idea of how to use it. After installing the ZAR, insert the damaged SD card into the PC Card reader and start the ZAR. (It is recommended that you disable the PC's security software and that you should disconnect the Internet).

When you see the prompts, click image Recovery (free), which will help us recover the photos from the SD card. ZAR will now look for installed devices and you will need to lead them to the problematic SD card. Select the correct disk click Next and ZAR will now analyze the SD card. This process takes several minutes. Once the analysis is complete, you will see a list of recovered files. On most SD cards, clicking the "Root" checkbox will most likely select all the photos. Select Next, and then you can choose which folder to put the recovered files into. By default, the folder is the same as the folder you chose to save. The important point is that you will be asked to select a destination folder for the recovered files, and make sure that you select a folder on your PC's hard drive instead of selecting the folder on the damaged SD card (Figure 4).

It took several minutes for the file to be handcuffed. Once this process is complete, browse to the target folder of your choice, and you should see most of the files you want to salvage.

Tips for repairing SD cards

Because the plastic shell is very thin, the standard size SD card is easy to damage, if you put the case in your pockets or without protection, the cards will easily break down.

Sometimes the little write-protection switch will fall off, allowing the SD card to be used in the camera or in any other device that is required to write the data to the card (Figure 5). SD card is write-protected for whatever reason, you can't delete a write-protected file because you need to change the file allocation table, which needs to be written to the card.

If your card doesn't have a problem and the switch is in the write position, try Windows's built-in tools to try to solve it. Right-click the SD card in Windows Explorer, select Properties, and then select the Tools tab. Click on the wrong windows to scan the card, find the error, and try to fix the error.

If the SD card does not appear in the Explorer, search the Start menu, and find the Disk Management tool. In this tool, you can find which drives windows can "see", and this list of drives may include drives without drive names. If you can't find your SD card in the drive list (Figure 6), it may be completely broken, or the reader will fail (possibly due to driver problems).

If the SD card is on the list but does not have a drive name, you should be able to right-click it, give it a drive name using the available options, or format it with a file system that Windows can read, and then assign a drive name. The newly established SD error can be directly done in Windows (Figure 7), in addition to allocating the FAT32 disk format for the SD card compatibility as much as possible in the format.

If the SD card is used in other card readers, but not on the local computer, it is likely that the card reader itself is the hardware and software problems. View the status of the card reader in the Explorer (Figure 8), and some of the reader drivers that are hard to find can be addressed in Third-party software such as Windows online updates or drive wizards.
