If you have modified a previously saved document, it is not saved when you exit. You can use the following methods to retrieve an unsaved version:
1. Re-open the previously saved document and click "file" to switch to the background view;
2. Click the "information" page;
3. Find a file version in the "version" column on the right that is displayed as "<time> (when it is not saved)", and click this version.
If you create a new document that has never been saved before, it is not saved when you exit. You can use the following methods to retrieve an unsaved version:
1. Start Word 2010 and click "file" to switch to the background view;
2. Click the "recently used files" page;
3. Find the "Restore unsaved document" button in the lower right corner, and click this button to select a file for recovery.
Alternatively, you can perform the following operations to retrieve the data:
1. Start Word 2010 and click "file" to switch to the background view;
2. Click the "information" page;
3. Find the "Manage version" button on the left of the "version" column on the right and click it;
4. Click "restore unsaved document" and select the file to be restored as prompted.
In Word 2010, if you have successfully restored an unsaved and modified version, Word 2010 will prompt you to select "compare" or "restore" this unsaved document. "Compare" means to compare the version that is disabled if it is not saved with the version that was previously saved, and "restore" means to use the restored version to overwrite the previous version for saving. If the document is not saved, Word 2010 prompts you to save it as a Word document after restoration.
In other Office 2010 programs, only the "Restore" option is provided after restoration for unsaved files, while the "save as" option is still provided after restoration for unsaved new documents.
Note: To use this new feature of Office 2010, make sure that the related options are enabled (enabled by default ):
1. Start the Office 2010 program to enable this function, and click "file" to switch to the background view;
2. Click the "option" button in the left column of the background view;
3. In the left column of the pop-up "options" dialog box, click "save" to switch to the Save option interface;
4. in the save option on the right, make sure that the "Save Automatic recovery information interval" and "close if I did not save the information, please keep the last automatically retained version" check boxes before the two items are selected. (Take Word 2010 as an example, as shown in the following figure :)
In addition, as shown in the preceding figure, restoring the unsaved version relies entirely on the automatic save function. If the document editing time is less than the set "save automatic recovery information interval" (10 minutes by default), and the Office 2010 program is disabled, the unsaved version cannot be restored.
Only when the exit confirmation dialog box contains the words "If you click do not save", the latest copy of this file will be provided temporarily, the Office 2010 program automatically saves (at least) a version for you. You can close it with confidence and restore the unsaved version.
