How to restore the password of a Cisco Switch

A vswitch is a common network device and one of the essential network devices. as a basic component of the network, its security has become the primary concern of many engineers and network administrators.
A switch is a required network device in a LAN.
I use 15 CISCO ipvst2950 switches in the LAN of my work unit. Managing a vswitch is an important responsibility of the network administrator. To improve network security, the vswitch password is very important for network management. If you forget the password, it will cause significant losses to the Administrator.
This document describes how to restore a vswitch password by taking the Catalyst2950 and Catalyst1900 vswitches as examples.
1. Catalyst 2950 Series Switch password recovery
1. Establish a physical connection from a PC to a vro, and use the RS232 CONSOLE line with the vswitch.) connect the vroconsole CONSOLE interface to the comport of the PC.
2. Use a Super Terminal on your computer: Open "start-Program-attachment-communication-Super Terminal-create Super Terminal", and first set the name for the new connection.
Then, set the connection port. Generally, choose COM1.
Set the connection parameters, click the "Restore to default" button, and set the parameters as follows: the number of bits per second is 9600, the data bit is 8, the parity is none, the stop bit is 1, and the data stream is controlled as none.
3. Power on the switch. Press the MODE key at the lower left of the front panel of the switch within 30 seconds after the switch is started.
4. Enter BOOT Mode. Three options are displayed. Enter the "flash_init" command to initialize FLASH.
5. Enter the "load_helper" command and run the "dir flash:" command.
6. Run the rename flash: config. text flash: config. old command to rename the configuration file containing the password.
7. Run the boot command to start the switch. The command takes a little longer to execute.
When "wocould you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [Yes/no]: ", enter" No ".
Then enter the enable command to enter the Switch privileged mode and Run Switch # rename flash: config. old flash: config. text.
8. Run copy flash: config. text system: running-config to copy the configuration file to the current system, that is, restore the original Switch configuration.
9. Use the enable password or enable secret command to reset the password.
10. Run the write memory command to save the configuration and restart the switch. Everything is OK.
Ii. Reset the password of the ipvst1900 series switches
Connect the computer to the vswitch and use the Super Terminal.
Then, within 30 seconds after the instance is started, press and hold the MODE key and follow the system prompts to restore the configuration to the factory value.
Then enter the BOOT mode, and enter or execute the preceding commands in sequence. Finally, use the enable command to reset the password, save the configuration, and restart. I will not describe it here.
