This article describes how to make the right choice for a CISCO router. Here I will share some of my experiences in choosing a Cisco router. It may be helpful to everyone.
When deploying a LAN, A vro is one of the essential devices. Cisco is the leader in the field of routers and other network equipment. He is also a brand that many network administrators must consider when purchasing routers. Cisco routers are known for their high quality and stability. But one cent, one cent. Although Cisco vrouters have a good reputation, but because of this, their prices are among the best in China.
However, Cisco routers have a long product line. There are more than 1800 series applicable to small and medium-sized enterprises, and 2600 and 3800 series suitable for medium and large enterprises. Different series correspond to different price levels. Therefore, if an enterprise can choose its own product, without being greedy and greedy, the price of this router is still acceptable. After all, the Cisco1841 vro suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises is only available in the first 5000 S. Most enterprises still accept it. Therefore, it seems that Cisco routers are very expensive, mainly because we are too concerned about Cisco's high-end products.
Experience 1: Rough frame first
Although Cisco has a long product line, there are a wide variety of product types, and there is no way to get started. However, I think it is a good practice, that is, to distinguish different products by series. Each product series has the same applicability. Therefore, when selecting a Cisco router device, the Network Administrator does not need to consider what type of router he needs. First, consider the scale of your company; whether a router is used in the company or a branch company. After the rough framework is determined, select the appropriate product in the framework. It can undoubtedly achieve twice the result with half the effort. This can reduce the number of detours for network administrators.
1. Consider the company's scale
The purchase of routers is closely related to the company's scale. If the company is large, the incoming and outgoing traffic to the vro is usually large. In this case, the vro must have a high throughput. In addition, if the company is relatively large, it often needs some relatively high-end applications. For example, you may need to deploy a network conferencing system in an enterprise, which also requires support from high-end routers.
Cisco has clearly defined its product series in this regard. For example, the Cisco1800 series routers are mainly used by small office organizations, while the 2800 series routers are mainly used by medium-sized enterprises; if your company is a large enterprise with an annual output of several billion employees and thousands of employees, you need to use 4500 series of router equipment, which provides better data throughput and security.
Therefore, if the network administrator defines the enterprise scale, the network administrator can greatly narrow down the scope when purchasing a Cisco router. Instead of looking like a haystack, you can choose among the dazzling products of different specifications.
2. Consider the nature of the company
Cisco not only divides the company into large and medium-sized enterprises, but also divides the company into branches and Group headquarters. Different companies have different series of products to serve them.
For example, the 1800 series products are more than sufficient for small and medium-sized enterprises in terms of functionality and quality. However, if your company is a branch of another company, and your "dad" is Ye Mao, if the scale of your branch is not enough, the use of the 1800 series products is still not suitable. For such small and medium branches, such as a foreign sales office, Cisco has launched a dedicated series, namely the 2600 series. This series of products is more suitable for enterprise branches. This series of router products can better communicate with the group's network.
Of course, Cisco also provides specialized products for the group's headquarters. Cisco's series starting with 7, such as 7200 and 7600, can all be applied to the network environment of the Group headquarters.
It can be seen that Cisco products of various series are clearly positioned. Network administrators can select the Cisco product series based on their company positioning. After setting this rough line, select the products in this series. Undoubtedly, this can make the network administrator more worry-free when deploying the network.
Experience 2: Focus on big data and small data, consider key applications
After selecting the product series, the network administrator needs to check the products of different specifications in the series. Assume that I have selected the product to adopt the 2800 series. There are still four products in this series. Some people may say that either of them is not a good choice? However, the result is the opposite. Because the prices of these four products vary greatly. From the lowest 7000 to the highest 1500. Therefore, enterprises and network administrators who care about each other still need to use their brains.
The main difference between products in the same series is that they have different business capabilities in a specific aspect. For example, both Cisco2801 and Cisco2821 provide voice data processing capabilities. However, the latter is more professional in speech processing. For example, vrouters 2821 support integrated call processing and voice messaging.
Therefore, the author believes that network administrators should consider the applications deployed on the enterprise's current or future network when considering which product of the specific series to use. If an enterprise now has a vro that supports voice data independently, it will be a waste to use vrouters 2821 during network upgrades. Because the original router workload for processing voice data is not very heavy, and now we still use 2821 routers, it will lead to repeated investment.
