When talking about clothes, I am an ordinary person. I just walked into a store and bought some suitable ones (what? Are you kidding me !?), Then go home directly. Well, that's what I want to do. Many years of experience tell me that it is only because some things should be suitable and may not be suitable. The same is true for Linux servers. Of course, they are all built on the same basic code and can run the same application, but one may be especially suitable for you and the other may make you look like a clown.

Therefore, how can you identify which one is? Well, let's start with the basic question you should ask in any computing decision: "What do you really want to do ?"

What do large enterprise-level businesses use?

For example, you have a company with hundreds to tens of thousands of users. What do you want? This is actually a very simple requirement. Your first choice is Red Hat Enterprise Linux (later referred to as RHEL ).

Red Hat has powerful business support. Next to a good technology, it is easy to find certified technicians, managers and engineers on RHEL. It also supports multiple types of hardware. Whether you are running an x86 server on a cabinet, Blade Server, ibm power system, or mainframe, it is suitable for RHEL. In short, Red Hat is the golden standard for commercial Linux systems.

Is RHEL too expensive for you? Well, there are two other valuable commercial Linux distributions worth the attention of enterprises. These are Oracle Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES ).

Oracle Linux is basically a cottage version of RHEL. Although I know that some people prefer its previous generation release, most people who have tried it even prefer to recommend RHEL. On the other hand, SLES has an easy-to-operate setup and management tool, YaST. I think it is very useful for setting up office branch deployment.

For example, you already have a real Linux expert team, but you haven't fully invested in RHEL, Oracle, or SLES. in this case, you may consider Debian. this is a Community version of Linux, but it works very well for those who know its origins. However, Debian is not a Linux system for non-experts.

Small Business Use

Well, for example, there are only several hundred or dozens of people in your organization. Maybe you and your dog. What should you do now? It doesn't matter. The previous options are still valid. Although, here I think RHEL and SLES are even more competitive in your IT spending. In my experience, RHEL is easier to manage a large number of servers distributed across multiple regions, and for me, SLES can always complete tasks well in small office areas. I suggest you try both of them and make your own decision.

If you already have some strong Linux administrators and want to save some of your expenses, I suggest using Red Hat or SUSE community release as well: they are Fedora and openSUSE. You cannot get technical support from the sponsors. In other words, you have to rely on yourself to use this version. However, if your IT team is familiar with Linux, you may not need help in using small businesses. For my own small office environment-20 desktop terminals and four servers-openSUSE, it is good to use.

Ubuntu may be the most popular brand in all Desktop Linux releases? Ubuntu Linux Server is also available. You can use Ubuntu Server on a larger business, but for enterprise-level load, I 'd like to know what the company behind me is like, such as Oracle, Red Hat, or SUSE, with rich experience in processing data center-level configuration. Ubuntu can be used for one cabinet or at most two servers.
