How to Set DHCP options

An important part of DHCP settings is DHCP option settings. In this regard, let's talk about it in detail separately. In addition to providing IP addresses for DHCP clients, the DHCP server can also set the working environment when the DHCP Client is started, for example, you can set the domain name, DNS server, WINS server, router, and default gateway for client login. When the client starts or updates the lease, the DHCP server can automatically set the TCP/IP environment after the client starts.

DHCP servers provide many option types, but only a few users are very concerned about them, such as default gateways, domain names, DNS, WINS, and routers; you have already set these options when you added the scope. In the scope field of the DHCP console, a "Scope option" shows your settings. To learn more about option settings, you can add DNS options in the scope as an example to describe DHCP option settings:

Set DHCP options step 1 start the "DHCP console"

DHCP option settings Step 2 expand the server in the left-side window, select "action" in the scope, and click "configuration options"

The "Configure DHCP options" dialog box 11.17 appears in step 3 of DHCP option settings, in the "basic options" tab, select "006 DNS server"> enter the DNS server address in the "new IP Address" text box in data input or in the "Server in the "name" dialog box, enter the DNS server name and click "resolution". The server IP address will also appear in the "new IP Address" text box → click "add ".

DHCP option setting step 4 click OK

When you use the IPCONFIG/renew command to update the IP address lease on the client, you will find that the DNS server address of the DHCP Client is immediately set to 198.188.188.1 in 11.17. The IP address lease of the DHCP Client is also updated.

On the Windows 2000 DHCP server, you can set different peer options. The preceding options are for scope. The objects you are targeting include: default Server options, scope options, class options, retain customer options. The following describes the relationship between them.

Default server options)

The setting of these options affects the client and class options in all scopes of the server in the DHCP Console window.

Scope options)

The setting of these options only affects the address lease under this scope

Class options)

The setting of these options only affects clients specified to use the DHCP class ID.

Reserved client options)

The setting of these options only affects the specified reserved customers.

If the same options are set in the server option and scope option, the scope option takes effect, that is, the scope option overwrites the server option during the application, similarly, the scope option and the customer retention option will overwrite the above three options. The priority of the DHCP option is as follows:

Retain customer Options> class Options> scope options> server options
