How to set the CMOS route and hard drive jumper

Jumper consists of two parts. One part is fixed on the motherboard, hard disk, and other devices. It consists of two or more metal jumpers (1) and the other part is the Jumper cap (2 ), this is a movable part, the outer is insulating plastic, the inner is conductive material, can be inserted in the Jumper needle above, connect two jumper pins.

When the Jumper cap is buckled on two jumper pins, it is switched on. When there is a current passing through, we call it on. Otherwise, it is disconnected and called off. Next let's take a look at where there are jumpers?

TIPS: it is very important to adjust the jumper. If the jumper is incorrect, it will crash and even burn the entire device seriously. Therefore, you must carefully read the manual when adjusting the jumper, check the patch cord name, patch cord column number, and connection relationship.

There are two most common jumper types on the motherboard. One is that there are only two pins. The two-pin jumper is the simplest, with only two statuses: ON or OFF (3 ).

The other is three needles, which can be in three states: transient connection between 1 and 2, transient connection between 2 and 3 (4), and open circuit all (5 ).

I. CMOS jumper
Most CMOS Jumpers are near the motherboard battery. It is easy to set. There are only two methods: normal and clear CMOS (usually there is a jumper description near the CMOS jumper ). If it is set to 1-2 (transient), it is normal. If it is set to 2-3 (transient), it is clear the CMOS settings, it can be used to clear the CMOS password and boot password (6 ).

Ii. Hard Disk jumper
In general, the default setting of a hard disk is used as the main disk when it is released, and does not need to be changed when only one hard disk is installed. However, when multiple hard disks are installed, you need to reset the hard disk jumper. The jumper on the hard disk is relatively simple, and its position is mostly between the data line interface behind the hard disk and the power line interface (7 ).

There are also instructions on Jumper settings on the hard disk surface. Taking Seagate hard disk as an example (8), there are four main settings: "Master or single drive" (it indicates that the hard disk is set as the primary disk or only one hard disk is connected to the channel separately, that is, the hard disk occupies only one ide channel, which cannot have a slave disk), "Drive is slave" (indicating the current hard disk is a slave disk), "master with a non-Ata compatible slave" (indicating that there is a master disk, the slave disk is not compatible with the ATA interface hard disk, which includes the old hard disk that does not support dma33 or the SCSI interface hard disk), "Cable select" (use the data cable to select the hard disk master and slave, this method uses specially processed data lines to set the master disk and slave disk. The 28th data lines are the selected lines. If there are, the master disk is used, and if there are none, the slave disk is used. Data lines that truly support this feature are rarely seen in the market ).

TIPS: there are no uniform standards for hard disk jumpers. The jumper settings may vary depending on different brands of hard disks. Usually we can find the Jumper illustration on the hard disk circuit board, the front of the hard disk or next to the IDE interface.
Iii. Optical Drive jumper

The optical drive is set as a slave disk by default after being released. The optical drive jumper is similar to the hard drive jumper. The jumper is usually located behind the optical drive, between the data line interface and the power line interface. Generally, there are only three types of optical drives: Master, slave, and cable select. There are very few other cases. These types of optical drives are basically the same, which is relatively standard, make the settings easier. Usually we can find the Jumper illustration on the top of the IDE interface (9 ).

Tip: If the optical drive and the hard drive share an IDE data cable, the optical drive jumper is generally set to slave, and the hard drive is set to master. If the optical drive is independently connected to the ide, you can switch to the master.
